Chemours is seeking a Patent Agent & Trade Secret Leader to join our growing Legal team and provide strategic intellectual property leadership.This is a hybrid position that will report directly to the Chief IP Counsel, based in Wilmington, DE, with occasional travel to Newark, Delaware.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working with business and technical colleagues to develop and implement patent strategies involving landscaping, freedom-to-operate, patent procurement, enforcement, and offensive and defensive patent invalidations proceedings around the world.

  • Developing and managing a global patent portfolio, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications globally, working with foreign agents and attorneys, U.S. outside counsel as needed, and in-house legal assistants, paralegals, patent agents, and attorney colleagues.

  • Conducting periodic patent portfolio reviews to support alignment with business and technical strategy.

  • Global management of Chemours' trade secret program, including conducting periodic trade secret reviews and audits, identification and documentation of new trade secrets, coordination of company-wide trade secret training, and working closely with cross-functional leadership to advance trade secret programs.

  • Managing legal costs and resources.

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • Admitted to practice and in good standing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

  • 5+ years of experience at a large law firm and/or in house law department.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability, including managing priorities and meeting deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely and build relationships with domestic and international business and technical colleagues.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Background or experience in fluorochemistry or in polymer chemistry.
