GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This position is responsible for leading and coordinating all shipping, receiving, inventory control, and warehouse logistics activities to ensure efficient material flow throughout the organization. This position serves as a subject matter expert for warehouse operations, inventory management systems, and shipping processes, while providing guidance and training to warehouse personnel. The role requires extensive experience in logistics, inventory control, audit compliance, and process improvement, with responsibility for resolving complex operational issues, supporting warehouse technology initiatives, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of inventory records. 

The Shipping & Receiving Specialist works closely with Purchasing, Accounting, Operations, Information Technology, vendors, and transportation providers to maintain efficient warehouse operations, improve inventory accuracy, and support organizational goals. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and oversee all inbound receiving and outbound shipping operations, ensuring materials are processed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and customer requirements.
  • Verify shipment accuracy using packing lists, bills of lading, and other supporting documentation while ensuring timely transaction processing.
  • Inspect received materials for damage, shortages, or discrepancies and coordinate resolution efforts with Purchasing, vendors, carriers, and Operations personnel.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through proper system transactions, inventory adjustments, material returns processing, and adherence to inventory control procedures.
  • Lead investigations of inventory discrepancies, cycle count variances, and material movement issues, implementing corrective actions to maintain inventory accuracy and integrity.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving complex shipping, receiving, inventory, and customer service issues involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the warehouse subject matter expert for inventory management, warehouse management systems, barcode technologies, scanners, and related software applications.
  • Coordinate and support the testing, implementation, troubleshooting, and enhancement of warehouse technologies and system upgrades in partnership with Information Technology and Business Operations teams.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve warehouse procedures, inventory controls, material handling practices, and workflow processes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Serve as a liaison between Warehouse Operations, Purchasing, Accounting, Operations, vendors, and transportation providers to improve material availability, inventory accuracy, and supply chain performance.
  • Maintain complete and accurate shipping, receiving, and inventory documentation, ensuring all records, freight bills, packing slips, delivery receipts, and supporting documents are properly retained and accessible.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for internal and external audits by maintaining documentation standards, preparing audit records, and ensuring compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, training, mentoring, and work coordination for warehouse personnel and temporary employees, supporting onboarding and employee development activities.
  • Promote a safe and efficient work environment by leading safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with safety procedures, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform warehouse and logistics-related duties as assigned while demonstrating a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, customer service, and operational excellence.
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, inventory control, or logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management principles, warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and barcode technology.

Valid driver's license

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.

Associate degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience leading warehouse processes and providing direction or training to employees. 
  • Experience supporting inventory audits, cycle counts, and compliance requirements. 
  • Ability to analyze data, investigate discrepancies, and implement process improvements. 
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, inventory software, and warehouse technology systems.
  • Ability to drive and possess a valid class D driver's license.
  • Be available to work extra hours when necessary and report to work whenever needed during non-working hour periods.
