Position Overview

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), also known as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in some states, is a healthcare professional who provides basic nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. LPNs play a crucial role in patient care by monitoring patient health, administering medications, and providing comfort and support to patients and their families.

Primary Responsibilities

Licensed Practical Nurses deliver direct patient care in various healthcare settings, focusing on basic nursing functions such as medication administration, vital sign monitoring, wound care, and patient education. They work as part of a healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and effective care. Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesDirect Patient Care
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration)

  • Administer prescribed medications via oral, topical, and injection routes

  • Perform basic wound care, dressing changes, and catheter care

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, eating, mobility)

  • Collect specimens for laboratory testing

  • Observe and report changes in patient condition to supervising RN or physician

Patient Monitoring and Assessment
  • Conduct routine health assessments and screenings

  • Monitor patient responses to treatments and medications

  • Recognize and report signs of complications or adverse reactions

  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and observations

Medication Administration
