Job description

Thermal Systems Group is currently hiring for a Senior Industrial Air Systems Designer. Thermal System’s Group customers are primarily in the paper manufacturing sector.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • AutoCAD proficiency in 2D design is required.
  • Experience in the following 3D Modeling is preferred: Advance Steel, Graitec, Tekla, Inventor, or equivalent 3D Modeling.
  • Create system layout and detail drawings for mechanical componentry, ductwork, stiffened platework, support steel, and access.
  • Generate field erection and shop fabrication detail drawings.
  • Ability to detail connections based upon engineer provided input.
  • Analyze specifications, design data, sketches, take-offs, and related engineering drawings.
  • Confer with engineering and design staff to assist in resolving design issues.
  • Duties may include checking drawings generated by others.
  • Typical industries served are power plants, paper mills, chemical plants, and refineries.
  • Some travel required, typically no more than (4-6) trips per year, with each trip being about (2-3) nights away. Additional day trips as required.
  • Ability to obtain field measurements, climb ladders, stairs, and elevated platforms.
  • Develop building openings sketches and ductwork routing sketches around known interferences during site visits
  • Ensure design solutions balance aesthetics, user experience, performance, manufacturing viability, and cost.
  • Develop design documentation package, including material, color, finish specifications, and functional specifications.
  • Conduct and leverage user research, market analysis, and usability studies to inform design decisions and drive user-centered design
  • Deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (DFM/A), and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Mentor and guide junior designers, helping them develop their skills and understand the design process.

Qualifications:

· A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent

· 10+ years of hands-on design experience.

· Knowledgeable in manufacturing processes and down-stream product delivery

· Must have experience in AutoCAD 2D design

· Ability to design system air handling apparatus and ductwork systems and to detail connections based on engineer input

· Must be able to travel approximately 4 – 8 times per year lasting 2 – 4 days each trip as well as make occasional day trips

· Must be proficient in using MS Office products such as Outlook, Excel and Word

· Must be comfortable using Microsoft Teams platform for direction and collaboration

· Must have a strong attention to detail and understanding of need to maintain project execution schedule.

· Must have driver’s license and insurable

· Must be legal to work in the United States
