This is aย TEMPORARY, INTERMITTENT position in the Bureau of Medical Services (MED).ย The incumbent serves as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) required to temporarily fill vacant medical positions at overseas posts or domestically when there are staffing shortages or extended staffing gaps. While overseas, the incumbent assumes the role of primary care provider and is responsible for a full range of primary care, preventative and emergency medical services.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.
Applicants MUST meet the required basic entry qualification requirements described below:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelorโs degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

IN ADDITION to meeting the basic requirements above, you MUST possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in Family Nurse Practitioner for this Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) position. You also MUST be licensed or registered by a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in Family Nurse Practitioner.
IN ADDITION to meeting the basic requirements above, you MUST have at least 1 or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service that provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of qualifying equivalent experience includes:
- Experience providing primary, preventive, and emergency health care services to overseas personnel to ensure mission readiness and continuity of care.
- Experience analyzing healthcare programs at U.S. government facilities abroad to assess effectiveness and identify improvements.
- Experience liaising with overseas medical providers, hospitals, labs, and public health officials to coordinate care and strengthen medical partnerships.
