JOB SUMMARY  

The Assistant Project Manager will support the successful development, execution, and closeout of transmission line and substation capital construction projects within Georgia. This position may be filled at a Level 4, Level 5, or Level 6 depending on the selected candidate's experience, demonstrated project management proficiency, technical knowledge, and ability to independently manage project responsibilities of increasing complexity. The role requires a highly organized, proactive project professional who can quickly integrate into a matrixed project environment, contribute with limited ramp-up time, and grow into progressively greater ownership. The Assistant Project Manager will partner closely with Project Managers, Cost Analysts, Schedule Analysts, Engineering, Construction, Supply Chain, Field Operations, and other internal and external stakeholders to help manage scope, schedule, cost, risk, documentation, project logistics, and stakeholder alignment. The successful candidate should be prepared to own defined workstreams, lead project coordination activities, identify and escalate risks, drive timely follow-through, and support overall project delivery from planning through closeout. Candidates hired at higher levels may be expected to independently lead more complex workstreams and may lead smaller or less complex transmission capital projects with oversight from leadership and the assigned Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Execution Support: Partner with Project Managers to coordinate the planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout of transmission line and substation projects, ensuring alignment with customer commitments, business objectives, safety expectations, and PMO standards.
• Project Management Documentation: Create, review, maintain, and organize high-quality project documentation, including project schedules, budget and cost information, BCA documentation, gatekeeper documentation, project status reports, action items, meeting notes, material reports, and stakeholder presentations for PM review and approval.
• Discipline Coordination: Support and lead, as appropriate, coordination across design, engineering, procurement, permitting, construction, outage coordination, commissioning, and closeout activities to promote seamless integration, timely decisions, and successful project execution.
• Equipment and Material Readiness: Monitor and track major equipment and material needs across assigned projects, including material slotting, ordering, readiness, reporting, and discrepancy resolution in partnership with Supply Chain, Engineering, Construction, and project partners.
• Schedule, Cost, and Performance Tracking: Monitor project progress, milestones, schedule health, budget performance, assigned activities, and upcoming deliverables. Identify trends, gaps, constraints, and potential issues early; communicate impacts and recommended next steps to the Project Manager and project team.
• Change Management: Initiate, support, and help manage project change processes by ensuring adjustments to scope, schedule, cost, assumptions, and execution plans are timely documented, reviewed, communicated, and tracked using appropriate tools.
• Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including project partners, field teams, customers, and leadership. Help manage expectations, communicate clearly, resolve concerns, and keep stakeholders aligned on project status, risks, decisions, and next steps.
• Meeting Leadership and Action Management: Proactively identify project meeting needs; schedule and coordinate project meetings; prepare agendas; document decisions, risks, issues, and action items; record attendance; publish meeting notes; and provide next steps to the project team in a timely manner.
• Post-Project Review and Continuous Improvement: Support and, when appropriate, lead post-project reviews to identify lessons learned, document improvement opportunities, and share insights that strengthen future project delivery, team performance, and PMO processes.
• Risk Management: Identify, assess, document, communicate, and help determine mitigation measures for project risks and issues that could affect safety, scope, schedule, cost, quality, compliance, stakeholder alignment, or project outcomes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The level offered will be based on the candidate's depth of project experience, demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedule, cost, risk, communication, and stakeholder coordination, and readiness to perform with the appropriate level of oversight for the assigned project complexity.

Educational/Certification Requirements:  

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, Business, or a related field is strongly preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Project management certification such as CAPM, PMP, or another related credential is preferred.
• EIT, PE, or related technical certification is a plus.

• Demonstrated experience supporting, coordinating, or managing projects, programs, construction, engineering, operations, project controls, or cross-functional delivery teams is required. Candidates should be able to show increasing levels of ownership, judgment, and independence appropriate to the level considered.

• Experience in the electric utility, transmission, construction, engineering, infrastructure, or capital project environment is preferred.

• Strong project management, organizational, prioritization, and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, competing project demands, and progressively complex responsibilities based on level and experience.

• Ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment with Project Managers, Cost Analysts, Schedule Analysts, Engineering, Construction, Supply Chain, Field Operations, customers, and other project partners.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly, confidently, timely, and appropriately for the audience.

• Working knowledge of project scope, schedule, cost, budget management, forecasting, financial analysis, risk management, and project controls principles, with deeper applied knowledge expected for higher-level candidates.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess project information, identify constraints, recommend practical solutions, and adapt quickly as project conditions change.
• Knowledge of contract administration, procurement coordination, material management, outage coordination, regulatory reporting, or construction execution is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, remain composed under pressure, and drive action despite ambiguity, shifting priorities, or urgent project needs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and project tracking/reporting platforms is required; experience with tools such as Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Power BI, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, TEAMS, STOMP, ITS, or similar systems is preferred.
