Job description

Job Title:  Assistant Musical Director

Location:  Ogden Community Schools, Ogden, IA

Description:

The Assistant Fall Musical Director supports the planning, preparation, and production of our annual fall musical. This is a part-time role in the fall semester that is ideal for those passionate about theater, music, education, and working with high school students. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Director and production team to help bring the show to life, both artistically and logistically.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director in casting, rehearsals, and overall production planning.
  • Support student actors with character development, staging, and performance techniques.
  • Lead select rehearsals as directed, including scene work, blocking, or character workshops.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff about rehearsal schedules, expectations, and performance details.
  • Help manage backstage operations to prepare students for technical rehearsals and performances.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional rehearsal environment.
  • Collaborate with the production team (director, orchestra director, choreographer, etc.) to ensure a cohesive artistic vision.
  • Supervise students during rehearsals and performances to ensure safety and discipline.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as script distribution, attendance, program creation, and show publicity, as needed.

Qualifications:

Experience in theater direction, performance, or education.

Time Commitment:

Late August - Mid-November. Hours vary by rehearsal schedule. Includes after-school hours and weekend tech rehearsals/performances.
