Job description

About the Position The Stanislaus County Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced and collaborative Deputy Director of Public Works to lead the Development Services Division. Reporting to the Public Works Director, this executive-level role oversees critical functions including transportation and encroachment permitting, traffic engineering, stormwater compliance, flood control, inspections, and development standards. The Deputy Director will provide strategic leadership, manage departmental operations, mentor staff, coordinate with outside agencies and consultants, and support major infrastructure and public service initiatives that enhance the community's transportation network and overall quality of life.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer with strong leadership, project management, and relationship-building skills, as well as extensive experience in public works, engineering services, traffic operations, or land development. Candidates should possess at least five years of progressively responsible management experience, including senior-level leadership experience, preferably within a local government public works environment.
