Job description

Our approach of "Message first, channel diverse" helps clients tell their stories and make sure the right people hear them.PR Intern Who We AreThatcher+Co. is a strategic communications and public relations firm headquartered in New York City with offices in Salt Lake City and Silicon Valley. We work with CEOs, boards and leadership teams across sectors — Fortune 100 companies, high-growth startups, countries, universities, religious institutions and nonprofits — helping them navigate the complexities of reputation, crisis, policy and growth. Founded by Brad Thatcher in 2008, the firm is led by senior practitioners who are in the room with clients, not managing from a distance. We are generalists. Our interns don’t get siloed into one account or one industry. You’ll be exposed to the full range of what strategic communications looks like across sectors, which means the learning curve is steep — and that’s the point. Why This InternshipAt Thatcher+Co., interns work directly alongside senior strategists on live client accounts. You’ll sit in on calls, contribute to real deliverables and build skills that translate immediately into a communications career — whether that’s here or elsewhere. We’re a smaller firm, and a seasoned team, which means there’s no shortage of opportunity to make an impact. We’re looking for someone who wants to be here and work on exciting projects, clients and campaigns. You will learn and contribute meaningfully. What You’ll DoResearch & Media Intelligence: Monitor media daily for client coverage, industry trends and competitive developments. Conduct research that directly informs client strategy — this isn’t busywork, it’s the foundation our senior team builds on.Media List Development: Build and maintain targeted media lists across broadcast, print, digital and social platforms, learning how to identify the right reporters and outlets for each client’s story.Writing Support: Gather research for written deliverables including proposals, news releases, media backgrounders and client communications. You’ll learn how strong PR writing gets built from the ground up.Event & Speaking Research: Research venues for planned events, build attendee lists and identify speaking opportunities for clients — logistics that teach you how campaigns and visibility programs come together.Account Support: Assist account teams with day-to-day needs, contributing to the operational rhythm that keeps client work moving forward.Team Collaboration: Participate in team meetings, brainstorms and internal discussions. We expect you to show up with ideas, not just notes.Who You AreCurrently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related fieldPrevious internship experience or relevant coursework in PR, communications, advertising or marketing preferredA strong, clean writer — you care about clarity and grammarGenuinely curious about how organizations communicate, manage reputation and tell their storiesOrganized and self-directed — you can manage multiple tasks without waiting to be told what’s nextComfortable in a fast-paced, agency environment where everyone contributesHas strong skill levels with standard workplace tools including Microsoft Teams and Office SuiteWhat to ExpectSchedule: In our SLC office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; remote the remaining days of the weekEnvironment: You’ll work independently and collaboratively. We value people who think for themselves but know when to ask questions.Mentorship: You’ll have direct access to senior team members — not a middle layer between you and the people doing the workMindset: Client-first, always. We move fast, hold a high bar and invest in people who meet it.Thatcher+Co. is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities and experiences.
