Job description

Title:Public Health Office Assistant
Location: Carthage, TN - Onsite
Duration: 12 Months W2
Schedule: Located at Smith County Health Department Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; Jackon County Health Department Monday and Wednesday
Position is full-time, M-F 7:30-4:30 PM Monday to Thursday, 7:30-1:00 Fridays.
Description
Our client is seeking a Public Health Office Assistant to provide clerical and administrative support within a dental public health clinic. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, self-motivated, team-oriented, and willing to travel throughout the region as needed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and manage patient appointments.
  • Inform patients of visit requirements.
  • Collect and update patient demographic information for registration.
  • Review documentation to determine eligibility for federal and state programs.
  • Enter and maintain information in health department management information systems.
  • Work with multiple computer software systems to input and retrieve information.
  • Process and balance the cash drawer.
  • Inform clients of their rights and responsibilities related to program participation.
  • Obtain prior authorization before releasing medical information, as required.
  • Assist with insurance prior authorization by gathering and submitting required documentation.
  • Compile appropriate forms for requested services to support efficient clinic operations.
  • Scan and index records into electronic dental records.
  • Maintain a positive, constructive, and cooperative work environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of full-time customer service and/or clerical/office experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation background check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Tennessee RDA license.
  • Dental front-office experience.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology.
  • Experience with dental scheduling and insurance coding.
  • Ability to assist chairside during emergencies or staffing shortages.
  • Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and computer skills.
