Position Overview: The City of Springfield is seeking to fill a Public Works Technician position to perform tasks to maintain streets, sanitary sewer systems, surface and subsurface storm drainage systems, street signs and surface markings, equipment, and landscaped areas. Technicians drive and operate equipment and vehicles.

Training includes vehicle and equipment operating, a curriculum designed for maintaining public infrastructure, and a great team to learn with.

An assessment of skills and knowledge will be conducted during the interview and selection process. Physical Requirements: This position frequently works in varying outdoor weather conditions and frequently works near moving mechanical equipment. It requires the ability to lift objects that could weigh a maximum of 80 pounds.

Employees with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) are subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. Selection and Interview Process: Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be asked to complete basic math and reading comprehension skills check. The selection process will include: interviews, reference checks, background investigation; as well as, post-offer (conditional offer) medical certification, drug and alcohol screening, and physical abilities test.
