The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, is recruiting for a full-time clinical-track psychologist with expertise or a strong professional interest in women’s and reproductive mental health. The psychologist will provide outpatient psychological assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy as part of the Department’s growing ambulatory clinical programs. Appointment may be made at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level.
The Department is dedicated to excellence in patient care, high-quality trainee education and is also committed to advancing the science of psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences through clinical trials and ongoing collaborative research. The rank of the appointment is open and will be commensurate with the experience and professional accomplishments of the selected applicant.
The faculty psychologist will provide patient-centered care within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience and will collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, trainees, and other health care professionals across the academic health system. The Department is nationally recognized as a leader in advancing the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral disorders. Recognized by Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors in Cincinnati, our expert clinicians are committed to using cutting-edge scientific advancements to provide the best mental-health treatment available to our patients. Consistent with the mission of UC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, clinical services, research, education, and training are integral parts of this clinic.
- The faculty psychologist will provide outpatient psychological assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy, with a primary clinical focus on women’s and reproductive mental health.
- The psychologist will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, trainees, and other health care professionals to develop and deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Essential responsibilities include direct patient care and may also include clinical teaching, trainee supervision, program development, quality-improvement activities, and scholarly work, as appropriate to assigned effort, faculty rank, qualifications, and departmental needs.
- Conduct diagnostic and psychosocial evaluations of adult patients presenting with mental health concerns related to women’s and reproductive mental health. Evaluate and treat patients presenting with mental health concerns related to pregnancy, the postpartum period, infertility, pregnancy loss, reproductive transitions, premenstrual symptoms, perimenopause or menopause, sexual health, and other concerns affecting women’s mental health.
- Evaluate and treat mood, anxiety, trauma- and stressor-related, sleep, and other psychiatric conditions commonly encountered in an outpatient women’s and reproductive mental health practice.
- Obtain comprehensive clinical, psychosocial, medical, reproductive, and treatment histories as relevant to the patient’s presenting concerns.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments of individuals and, when clinically appropriate, couples or families, and collaborate with physicians and other clinicians in the delivery and coordination of care.
- Provide evidence-based psychotherapies appropriate to the patient population and the psychologist’s training and clinical expertise, which may include cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy-informed interventions, cognitive processing therapy, exposure-based interventions, and other empirically supported approaches.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic assessment, patient goals, clinical needs, and relevant medical and psychosocial factors.
- Monitor treatment response and patient progress through clinical assessment, patient-reported outcomes, and other appropriate measures, and revise treatment plans as clinically indicated.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, obstetric and gynecologic clinicians, primary care clinicians, and other referring or treating professionals to coordinate care and support continuity of treatment.
- Communicate clinical findings, treatment recommendations, and clinically significant changes in patient status to relevant members of the treatment team in accordance with applicable privacy and documentation standards
- Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of evaluations, treatment plans, psychotherapy services, patient progress, clinical communications, and other required patient-care activities.
- Participate in clinical team meetings, case consultation, and departmental activities related to outpatient psychology and women’s mental health.
- Provide clinical teaching or supervision to psychology externs and other trainees, as assigned and consistent with the faculty member’s qualifications and departmental needs.
- Perform other duties consistent with the faculty member’s clinical expertise, assigned responsibilities, and departmental needs
Prior to effective date of appointment, must have all the following:
- Licensed Psychologist in the State of Ohio
- Doctoral Degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD)
- Experience providing psychological assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy in an outpatient clinical setting.
- Specialized training, certification, or professional experience in reproductive, perinatal, or lifespan women’s mental health.
- Demonstrated expertise or substantial clinical experience in women’s and reproductive mental health.
- Experience working in an academic medical center, hospital-based outpatient practice, or interdisciplinary health care environment.
- Interest or experience in clinical program development, measurement-based care, quality improvement, education, or collaborative scholarship.
- Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
