    THE ARK OF DC


POSITION SUMMARY

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in psychology, APA approved internship in clinical psychology, five (5) years’ experience, licensed to practice psychology in DC, member of American Psychological Association and Iowa Psychological Association; functions as a mental health professional in DC.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain service hours in psychology at designated levels and recommend increase and decreases in the level of psychology services offered by THE ARK OF DC
  2. Maintain the quality and relevance of services offered by the psychology staff and assume overall responsibility for the program of this profession within THE ARK OF DC;
  3. Oversee the allocation of psychology time and assign activities to psychology staff, as needed;
  4. Represent psychology up and across administrative lies and determine the administrative needs;
  5. Coordinate the research efforts of THE ARK OF DC and participate on THE ARK OF DC Research Committee;
  6. Provide consultation and guidance to other staff regarding all aspects of services.
  7. Interpret procedures and practices within and outside SHCD.
  8. Supervise the work assignee, for psychologists having not yet completed supervisor requirements for licensure or for standards accreditation, shall provide direct active supervision and guidance which shall be regular, timely and documented;
  9. Responsible for recruiting, hiring of psychologists within Board approved positions maintained by THE ARK OF DC.
  10. Responsible for disciplinary action and for termination of employment for psychologist;
  11. Responsible for at least annually evaluating the performance of psychology staff;
  12. Provide diagnostic and treatment services to clients;
  13. Participation in community consultation, education, community planning and the disaster team;
  14. Submit required clinical and administrative reports;
  15. Participate in regularly scheduled clinical review meetings within THE ARK OF DC
  16. Meet with the administrator periodically and participate in general program operation decision making in keeping with THE ARK OF DC organizational structure.
  17. Plan and evaluate with psychology staff their continuing education needs and service training needs and assures for the annual maintenance of a staff development plan for each psychologist.
  18. Review and report on the status and needs of psycho-diagnostic supplies annually and has prior approval for the purchasing of such supplies in keeping with the dollars assigned for the purpose by THE ARK OF DC annually.
  19. Track testing data and equipment and orders new and reorders supplies.
  20. Respond to consumers requests for information on clients of former psychologists.
  21. Respond to consumers requests for information; provide direction about relevant issues regarding psychology
  22. Certify hours submitted by psychology staff for vacation, sick time, continuing education to business office.
  23. Work with staff and other community resources where indicated to coordinate services.
  24. Participate on the Quality Assurance Committee; and
  25. Maintain professional development through continuing education.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  1. Provide direct services including outpatient, intensive outpatient and day treatment services.
  2. Provide evaluation services including clinical assessment.
  3. Provide emergency services.
  4. Conduct social histories.
  5. Develop service ad discharge plans with consumers.
  6. Document service contacts with and for consumers.
  7. Complete documentation in keeping THE ARK OF DC standards and in a timely fashion.
  8. Provide consultation and education and community planning through outreach efforts to community groups, organizations, families and other interested parties.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of consumers contacts
  10. Participate in the continuous quality improvement process.
  11. Credentialed to provide after-hours emergency services.
  12. Licensed in their profession in the state of Columbia at the independent practice level.


THE ARK OF DC FUNCTIONS

Attend Finance and Audit Committee meetings and Board meetings.  Participate in mandatory staff development, including staff meetings and trainings.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES REQUIRED

•       The Medical Director must be a DC licensed psychiatrist (medical physician). The Medical Director should demonstrate:

•       Skill in providing excellent customer service and support

•       Organizing and prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines

•       Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, ethnic and professional backgrounds

•       Ability to work effectively with managers, co-workers, members of the public and professional groups

•       Consistently maintains Medical Director ethical behaviors exemplary of quality public service and fair standards, inclusively, among all employees and members of the public

•       Current licensure as a psychiatrist to practice in Washington, D.C. by the State Board of Medical Examiners.

•       Current DEA, DPS certification

•       Current CPR Certification required 

•       Current Immunization Records

•       Current PPD
