Job description

THE PRACTICE

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital - Santa Barbara, CA 

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is a non-profit, 519-bed acute care teaching hospital and trauma center. It is the largest of its kind between Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. The hospital was founded in 1888 by 50 women determined to provide a healthcare facility for the growing community of Santa Barbara. We offer a comprehensive range of services to best suit our patients' needs and circumstances, including acute inpatient psychiatry and detoxification; residential alcohol, drug, and co-occurring disorders; rehabilitation; and several levels of outpatient treatment services in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. Our approach to care is integrative, family-oriented, and culturally sensitive. Treatment plans support each person's specific needs and include treatment modalities for dual diagnosis to address those with both psychiatric and chemical dependency needs.

ED & Consult Liaison Services

  • Provides treatment to the ED holding unit
  • Provides treatment for adults 18 years of age and older
  • Double coverage, 7 on 7 off schedule
  • 10 hour shifts
  • Daily caseload of 15 patients per physician
  • Shared rotating night call
  • Work with a collaborative group of psychiatrists, that truly work as a team
  • Must be board certified (board eligible for new graduates)
  • Requires CA license and DEA

ECT / Interventional Psychiatry Service Development & Consult Liaison Services

  • Vacation PRN Coverage
  • Provide ECT intake and evaluation clinical services to patients; provide ECT; and provide follow up clinical services as appropriate. Provide similar clinical services to TMS and Psychedelic therapies in the future as these programs are developed
  • Provide direct patient care to psychiatry consultation patients on the Consult-Liaison service across Medical and Surgical services, and develop additional CL services as appropriate
  • Coordinate the development, if needed, of additional consultation by Telehealth or for Outpatient Psychiatry as needed
  • Collaborate with other hospital-based psychiatrists to flexibly help out with patient care on other services as needed
  • Provide clinical consultation to the Medical and Surgical services and coordinate with other hospital-based psychiatrists to flexibly help out with patient care on other services as needed
  • Collaborate with Residency Training leadership, Hospitalist leadership, and other key staff to identify unmet needs for consultation from psychiatry to improve care for medical and surgical patients
  • Oversee the clinical experience and teaching for medical students, residents, and NP students on the CL service
