The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) is a key member of the interdisciplinary behavioral health care team in a locked adult psychiatric setting. Job Requirements
  • Current RN license in Virginia or compact license eligibility

  • Recent EPIC experience within the last 6 months to 1 year preferred
  • BLS preferred upon hire; ACLS may be accepted in lieu of BLS
  • De-escalation training preferred
  • Experience caring for adult and geriatric behavioral health patients preferred
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and therapeutic relationship-building skills
Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu in a locked behavioral health unit
  • Complete and document physical assessments and behavioral health assessments
  • Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary team to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans
  • Use therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques to support patients in crisis
  • Monitor patient responses to treatment and revise care plans as needed
  • Advocate for patients while promoting dignity, respect, and individualized psychiatric care
  • Support continuity of care and discharge planning with the treatment team
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and behavioral health best practices
