Job description

Physician Transformation Advisor, Medical Services (PRN)

Whitman-Walker envisions a society where all people are seen for who they are, treated with dignity and respect, and afforded equal opportunity to health and wellbeing. Through care, advocacy, research, and education, we empower all people to live healthy, love openly, and achieve equality and inclusion. For over 50 years, we have been meeting the needs of our communities with the endless dedication of our diverse teams.

The Physician Transformation Advisor, Medical Services (PRN) provides flexible, project-based clinical expertise and strategic guidance to advance Whitman-Walker Health's long-term goals for clinical quality, care delivery, provider development, and value-based care. Working under the direction of the Chief Health Officer, the Physician Transformation Advisor collaborates with Medical Services and organizational leadership to identify and advance strategic priorities. The Advisor then works directly with frontline staff and providers to understand how care is delivered in practice and translate those priorities into practical, sustainable workflows, education, policies, and tools.

This is a PRN employee position scheduled according to organizational and project needs. The Physician Transformation Advisor works collaboratively across teams and provides project leadership, clinical mentorship, and subject-matter guidance without supervisory or personnel-management authority. The Advisor serves as an accessible improvement and problem-solving resource, with an emphasis on reducing unnecessary complexity and making it easier for staff and providers to deliver consistently high-quality, patient-centered care.

  • Assess clinical and operational processes to identify variation, inefficiencies, and systemic barriers to achieving quality and value-based performance goals.
  • Help streamline and align workflows across departments and clinical sites, so processes are consistent, efficient, and designed around the needs of patients and staff.
  • Translate evidence-based clinical standards, quality measures, and organizational priorities into clear expectations and practical clinical processes.
  • Leverage Epic functionality, including standardized documentation, clinical decision support, population health tools, and workflow design, to support quality and value-based care.
  • Provide hands-on implementation and change-management support to help teams adopt new workflows, troubleshoot problems, and refine processes based on real-world experience.
  • Evaluate the impact of implemented changes on quality, efficiency, and staff experience and recommend further improvements.

Provider Onboarding, Clinical Support, and Education

  • Review provider onboarding, clinical support, and continuing-education activities and recommend opportunities for greater consistency, coordination, and effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain organized, accessible reference resources describing Whitman-Walker Health's clinical and operational processes, Epic workflows, documentation expectations, organizational resources, and standards of practice.
  • Develop an approach to clinical mentorship, support, and oversight for newly hired providers, with particular attention to new graduates from physician assistant and nurse practitioner programs.
  • Strengthen and coordinate ongoing provider education in response to organizational priorities, quality data, emerging clinical needs, identified practice variation, and provider feedback.
  • Redesign provider peer review to provide meaningful clinical feedback, identify opportunities for improvement, and inform future education and quality initiatives.
  • Support exploration of graduate medical education partnerships or program development as organizational opportunities and external partnerships evolve.

Medical Respite Program Development and Implementation

  • Establish an initial clinical and operational framework for safe and consistent medical respite care in conjunction with the Chief Health Officer and the Senior Director of Nursing while the Director of Clinical Respite Care and Staff Respite and Community Nurse Practitioner are recruited and hired.
  • Work closely with the newly hired team to develop, review, and refine clinical workflows, policies, procedures, training resources, and standards of care.
