Job description

The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is currently seeking talented candidates for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician at our Silver Springs, NV location. At NATC, our vehicle maintenance team supports the teams who design, manufacture, and test innovative automotive solutions.

Founded in 1957, the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is a privately owned, independent test, evaluation, design and engineering facility offering development and testing to customers worldwide. NATC operates 6,600 acres of test courses, discrete test events, environmental chambers, shops, instrumentation facilities and blast and ballistic test areas to create an unparalleled testing area available to our staff to innovate and solve our customer?s problems.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on a diverse fleet of heavy construction equipment, commercial vehicles, prototype vehicles, military vehicles, and company fleet assets. This position supports vehicle testing operations by ensuring equipment is maintained safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and customer requirements.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs skilled maintenance and repair duties involving repairs to gasoline and diesel powered heavy, and light construction equipment including but not limited to excavators, backhoes, skid steer, loaders, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, Challenger, cranes, vacuum trucks and bulldozers.
  2. Inspects, diagnoses, and locates mechanical and electrical issues on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered units and dismantles assemblies to gain access to hydraulic systems, front and rear drive components, electrical systems, drive train components, chassis components, and ignition systems using proper tools and test equipment.
  3. Works with customers and other vehicle maintenance technicians to ensure quality work is done in all aspects while maintaining test and company vehicles and equipment.
  4. Reviews maintenance records of test vehicles for accuracy and completion before submission.
  5. Ensures maintenance actions performed are in accordance with test directives and applicable manuals.
  6. Maintains records of maintenance actions performed on support vehicles and company fleet units as well.
  7. Responds to field repairs and emergencies when necessary.
  8. Performs maintenance and diagnostics on battery electric, hybrid, and conventional vehicles as assigned.
  9. Relates well with employees and customers at all levels and at all times in a professional and personable manner.
  10. Documents and photographs deficiencies and anomalies, then assists in root cause analysis.
  11. Complete unscheduled recoveries and participate in on-call mechanic duties.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
