The Senior Development Scientist for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for completing assignments requiring independent thought, judgment, and initiative. Candidate should require a limited degree of supervision for routine work and general instructions, with guidance on new assignments. This individual will contribute to the development of innovative protein-based reagents and technologies through the application of chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology principles. Candidate should be able to assist in developing new techniques and procedures that lead to greater departmental efficiency. All work must also meet regulatory requirements and follow company policies and procedures. Candidate should have a willingness to work in an ISO9000/FDA regulated environment.
This position is a part of the Reagent Research and Development department located in Chaska (Minneapolis), MN and will be an on-site position.
You will be a part of the Reagent Development team and report to the Manager, Development Science responsible for design, development and commercialization of recombinant protein-based reagents for immunoassays for an automated system. If you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, problem-solving role, have confirmed experience in chemistry, biochemistry, immunochemistry, or protein sciences and knowledge of immunoassay chemistry and development, and want to work to build world-class immunoassay products and systems-read on.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Design, develop, express, purify, and characterize recombinant proteins and other biological reagents for diagnostic applications.
  • Independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret experimental studies involving protein engineering, expression systems, protein purification, and biochemical characterization.
  • Apply principles of chemistry and biochemistry to optimize reagent performance, stability, manufacturability, and integration into diagnostic products.
  • Develop and support new product designs, product optimization, scale-up activities, technology transfer, and process/product verification and validation studies.
  • Provide technical leadership within the department, maintain regulatory-compliant documentation, and communicate results effectively to project teams.

The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Bachelor's degree in field (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Protein Science, Chemical Engineering or related science field) with 5+ years experience or Master's degree in field with 3+ years experience or Doctor's degree in field with 0-2 years experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of scientific methods, experimental design, laboratory best practices, and data analysis.
  • Ability to document work in compliance with ISO9000/FDA regulations, including materials, methods, data interpretation, and conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve scientific problems, work effectively in cross-functional teams, and communicate technical information to diverse audiences.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
  • 2+ years of experience in diagnostic business, with immunoassay experience a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in any of the following fields is desired: protein engineering; recombinant protein design, engineering, expression, purification; and bacterial or mammalian cell culture systems supporting immunoassay or immunoreagent development.
  • Meaningful experience in research or diagnostic setting with knowledge of immunoassay development is a plus.

The annual salary range for this role is $105,000-$115,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
