Post Doctoral Research Associate

Position Details

Working Title: Post Doctoral Research Associate
Department: VPR-Complex Carbohydrate Research Center
Location: Athens Area

Responsibilities
  • Design new recombinant DNA constructs within the Moremen lab, generate recombinant expression constructs, verify by DNA sequencing, and express a collection of glycosylation enzymes for biochemical and structural characterization.
  • Establish and optimize strategies and protocols for protein purification and troubleshoot the isolation of numerous recombinant products, including processing for enzymatic and structural studies.
  • Conduct detailed enzymatic characterization of recombinant glycosylation enzymes, including isolation of wild type and mutant enzyme forms and full characterization of kinetic parameters with multiple substrates.
  • Organize collaborative projects with researchers at remote sites, preparing samples, data, and reports.
  • Train and supervise Research Professionals, Research Technicians, and undergraduate researchers in the generation of recombinant constructs, protein purification, and characterization.
  • Interact with structural biology groups for preparing samples for enzymatic glycan synthesis, NMR analysis, and crystallization.
Qualifications

Relevant/Preferred Education and Experience:

  • A PhD in biochemistry or molecular biology.
  • Experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, computational biology, protein expression, purification, and general laboratory methods.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Detailed capabilities to carry out molecular biology and biochemistry protocols.
  • Run all aspects of the protein expression platform.
  • Coordinate and supervise numerous concurrent projects from initiation to completion.
  • Well trained in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, enzymology, computational analysis of modeled protein structure, with preferred expertise in glycoscience and large‑scale protein expression in bacteria and mammalian cell culture.
