Job description

Hexagon’s Autonomous Solutions business area is looking for a IP Protection Manager to join our legal and compliance team and manage our IP protection activities reporting to our VP, Business Area General Counsel and Compliance Officer.   

The Location:This position is based in Calgary, Alberta, Morton, Illinois or Tucson, Arizona.

AsIP Protection Manager you will be responsible for these activities: 

  • Manage our internal patent process, shepherding invention disclosure from internal submission through patent grant with our external counsel
  • Liase with our internal engineering, research and development, and accounting/finance teams and external counsel
  • Become thoroughly familiar with our patent portfolio and corporate strategy, and keep the portfolio aligned with the strategy.  
  • Monitor the activities of competing parties in the marketplace, and provide regular summaries to management.
  • Keep current on technology developments within Hexagon AS's space.  
  • Work closely with product and engineering management to ensure appropriate IP protection for product lines and key technology areas.  
  • Monitor spending, and plan activities within an annual budget

Must Have: 

  • B.Sc. in engineering, applied mathematics or applied physics and 7 years of experience.
  • Project management experience, >= 2 years experience
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with audiences of varying technical knowledge

Nice To Have: 

  • Strong understanding of positioning and localization
  • Able to comprehend descriptions of technical methods and do comparative analysis\
  • Geomatics specific knowledge
  • Experience with patenting technology
  • Programming ability - be able to read C/C++ or Matlab code
  • Be able to read schematics
  • M.Sc. in engineering, applied mathematics or applied physics and 5 years experience
