Role Overview
The OTP Generator Controls Electrical Engineer is responsible for analysis activities related to the preparation and release of engineering data for generator excitation and controls operations and maintenance. As a member of the Generator Service Engineering team, the Generator Controls Electrical Engineer supports excitation and controls development during concept optimization, maintenance activities, manufacturing, assembly, and test validation of controls systems. All of this while ensuring compliance with the best internal practices, customer specifications, and industry standards on Mitsubishi and OOEM generators. Disposition Engineering Service Requests (ESR) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR). Support RCA (Root Cause Analysis).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for customers and field service activities.
  • Disposition ESRs and NCRs related to general generator troubleshooting, excitation (AVRs), SFC (Static Frequency Controls), Relay Panels, PLCs, control operations and maintenance.
  • Support generator inspections/troubleshooting on generator primary and auxiliary equipment at Customers' Sites. Expected travel up to 25% year.
  • Knowledge/experience in generator operation is desired.
  • Experience in electrical grid codes/operation, electrical transmission and protection systems/standards is desired.
  • Develop and implement electrical repair/troubleshooting and control systems training curriculum.
  • Drive the development of controls work instructions and procedures.
  • Reverse engineering of generator component designs.
  • Ensure that repairs meet customer expectations and applicable industry standards.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures.
  • Create conceptual and preliminary designs for new product development programs.
  • Create detail, assembly and installation control logic definition in the form technical drawings utilizing CAD software, and various analytical tools, and release them in a Windchill system.
  • Support in-house and supplier manufacturing and testing of control system components and sub-systems interpreting technical data and assisting in product improvements.
  • Participate in a cross-functional team environment completing a variety of objectives depending on the program lifecycle assigned.
  • Advance state-of-the-art electrical systems through creative thought, personal and team research, technical compliance, and strong analysis skills.
  • Experience development requirements, engineering, and providing oversight/support to suppliers for critical components.
  • Support RCA (Root Cause Analysis) as needed.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Electrical Engineering or corresponding field experience plus 5+ years of experience in related industry. Proficiency with a variety of development, authoring, and content management tools.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: Windchill, SAP, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, planning/scheduling software.
