Job Description Role: Protection & Control (P&C) Design Engineer - Level E4 Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid) Contract Duration: 12 months Number of Vacancies: 4 Compensation: Maximum INC Rate: $96.11/hour Maximum T4 Rate: $79.43/hour Position Overview This role involves working on Protection & Control (P&C) system design for high-voltage substations (12kV to 500kV). The successful candidate will contribute to design efforts, perform analysis, resolve technical challenges, and ensure delivery of engineering documentation aligned with industry standards. Key Responsibilities Apply sound engineering judgment to develop safe and effective design solutions

Prepare and review engineering documents such as specifications, proposals, estimates, test plans, hazard logs, and design basis documentation. Generate signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in compliance with applicable professional standards. Develop detailed P&C design packages including equipment layouts, single line diagrams, AC/DC schematic diagrams, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, material lists, and external connections.

Specify and procure materials, panel assemblies, and related equipment. Conduct condition assessment investigations and provide evaluation reports with recommendations. Prepare commissioning test plans and documentation.

Provide construction support, including field reviews as needed. Offer technical guidance to junior staff and perform peer reviews. Deliver training on installed or modified systems to peers and end users.

Required Qualifications & Skills Minimum 8 years of experience in a relevant electrical engineering field, with a focus on protection & control systems in substations. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with EGBC, or eligible for registration. Proficiency with CAD tools and drawing standards

Competent in industry-standard design and analysis software. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively on medium complexity projects. Additional Requirements Experience with P&C systems in electrical utility environments, including high-voltage transmission stations (12kV-500kV). Capable of preparing full-scope design work packages including scope, schedule, and effort estimates.

Knowledge of relevant design and safety practices, including preparation of drawings and documentation for installation/modification. Willingness and ability to travel to project sites, including remote locations within British Columbia. Valid Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
