Are you ready to design engine and cooling installation solutions that deliver world-class performance for Caterpillar machines in the most demanding applications? Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer with a strong focus on Engine Installation and Cooling design. In this role, you will develop integrated, customer-driven solutions-spanning mounting, cooling, airflow, exhaust, and system packaging-that maximize machine productivity, reliability, and efficiency. Your designs will directly enable superior machine performance, increased uptime, and exceptional customer value across both new and legacy platforms. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and global engineering partners, you will solve complex challenges and ensure every engine installation delivers the durability, serviceability, and performance our customers expect from Caterpillar equipment.
What You'll Do (Job Duties)
  • Design cost optimized engine installation systems in Creo (mounting, cooling, airflow, exhaust, packaging)

  • Perform calculations and predictive analysis to validate system performance and durability

  • Translate customer and field feedback into practical design improvements

  • Develop concepts, feasibility studies, and validation plans

  • Perform and analyze in-iron testing to validate designs

  • Create and maintain models, drawings, BOMs, and documentation

  • Execute or support FEA and simulation for structural and thermal performance

  • Resolve field issues with effective design solutions

  • Integrate mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems within engine installations

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers

  • Drive commonality and lifecycle improvements

  • Ensure quality, safety, and compliance of all designs

  • Monitor and mitigate system costs

What You Have (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline

  • Strong engineering fundamentals & critical thinking skills.

  • Experience with CAD modeling, drawings, and documentation

  • Ability to solve problems and deliver practical solutions

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

Top Candidates Will Also Have
  • Engine design and installation systems knowledge and experience

  • Product design and development experience with paving machines or other heavy equipment

  • Proven track record successfully working with global cross functional teams and suppliers

  • FEA or durability analysis experience

Summary Pay Range:
$97,530.00 - $146,290.00
