Job description

Job Summary The Therapeutic Recreation Internship with the City of Pompano Beach provides students with hands-on experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating inclusive recreation programs for individuals with disabilities and diverse needs. Interns will assist in organizing adaptive sports, leisure activities, social events, and community-based programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being. The internship emphasizes person-centered programming, inclusion practices, and professional development within a municipal parks and recreation setting.

Duties and Responsibilities Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing programs and specialized recreation activities for a variety of ages. Interacts and communicates with a variety of groups and individuals including department and City staff, community groups, volunteers, senior citizens, special needs participants and the general public Provides assistance in setting up recreation classes, leagues, meetings and events Ensures the safety of all program, activity and event participants and providers by following City policies and procedures and monitoring participants' activity Creates press releases, displays & brochures for programs and facilities Provides guidance on registration procedures events, and activities Receives reviews, prepares and/or submits records and reports that are programmatic and administrative (for example: activity reports, program proposals and evaluations, registration forms, deposit logs, news releases) Qualifications Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Parks and Recreation, Leisure Services, or a closely related field Interest in therapeutic recreation programming and enhancing the quality of life for individuals of all ages and abilities Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with participants, families, volunteers, and staff Ability to assist with planning, organizing, and facilitating therapeutic recreation programs, activities, and special events Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment Attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality when handling participant information Initiative, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn in a municipal parks and recreation environment Valid Florida driver's license required Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications required. Ability to pass an FDLE Level II criminal Background Check and fingerprinting This position requires a Level II background check.

Additional Information Work Days/Hours: Must be available to work mornings, afternoons, and evenings (Monday - Friday). Days and hours are subject to change. No more than 25 hours per week.
