Job description

Primary Job Function
The Property Tax Representatives will supervise and coordinate the property tax function for the real and business personal property owned and/or operated by XXXX and its subsidiaries. The ideal candidate is a self-starting team-player who has previous corporate or consulting experience in the execution of all aspects of the property tax compliance cycle, including (but not limited to): the extraction and maintenance of property tax data from multiple systems, the high-volume preparation and submission of business personal property renditions throughout the United States, the high-volume payment and appropriate accounting of all property tax liabilities, property tax planning and budgeting, and the proactive resolution of all property tax audits. The Property Tax Representative will also assist the Property Tax Manager in the active mitigation of Corporate's property tax expense through formal and informal real estate and personal property appeals at the jurisdictional and state levels. This position requires the availability for occasional travel and requires the availability to occasionally (seasonally) work late hours and/or Saturdays.

Core Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision/direction of the Property Tax Manager, the Property Tax Representative will:

  • Interact with multiple software systems/platforms to obtain asset data from multiple corporate divisions;
  • Input and maintain, in good form, all property tax data in a central database;
  • Prepare, analyze and submit annual business personal property renditions for all Abbott owned/operated facilities throughout the United States;
  • Research and analyze the validity of assessed values for all real and personal property accounts by producing independent valuations using generally accepted valuation methods;
  • Coordinate and execute the timely payment of all real and personal property tax liabilities ($40mm+) to hundreds of taxing jurisdictions throughout the United States;
  • Prepare, respond and favorably resolve property tax audits for all Abbott owned/operated facilities;
  • Maintain the property tax calendar to ensure compliance with all state and local deadlines;
  • Coordinate, execute and supervise other projects as directed by management;
  • Assist with the research, preparation and negotiation/adjudication of all real and business personal property tax appeals;
  • Assist with on-site research and accompany the Property Tax Manager while touring Abbott facilities nation-wide.
  • Assist with the research, preparation and presentation of quarterly property tax budget/accrual recommendations to the management;
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of annual renditions, and the payment of tax bills, for Abbott’s 5,000+ loaned equipment accounts throughout the United States;
  • Assist with the research, creation and implementation of process improvements;
  • Be responsible for continuous self-improvement and continuing education in a fast-paced and rapidly-changing legal and technological landscape.
