What does a property management assistant do?

The job duties of a property management assistant include overseeing maintenance and repairs and handling administrative responsibilities for an apartment complex or housing community. In this career, you assist the property manager with the general upkeep of the residential units and provide any necessary services for tenants. As an assistant member of the property management team, you may often communicate directly with tenants to answer questions and assess their needs. You may also work on marketing and tenant retention, and collect essential documentation for leasing agreements.

  • Assist residents with questions, concerns, and account support in a professional, approachable way
  • Help with rent collection and resident accounts, with guidance and support

  • Support leasing activities as needed, including tours and resident communication
  • Maintain organized records and ensure compliance with company policies and fair housing requirements
  • Contribute to a positive, welcoming community environment

  • A customer-service mindset and genuine care for residents
  • Comfort learning financial processes like rent collection and reporting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to stay organized in a busy environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, Entrata, or AppFolio is helpful, but not required
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure

Compensation and benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • Three medical plan options
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Flexible Spending Plan
  • Short-term and long-term disability
  • 401(k) participation starting with your first paycheck
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • Educational assistance
  • Generous PTO and paid company holidays

About us

At Inland Family of Companies, we believe strong communities start with strong relationships. We are Wisconsin's largest full-service real estate firm and have served our clients since 1971. Our work is guided by integrity and our values of Warrior Spirit, Empathy, and Better Together.
