Job description

Job Description:

Shop Technician 1
Summary:
Under the direction of the Shop Foreman, the Level 1 Technician maintains equipment operation by performing vehicle and equipment inspections and can complete various tasks related to preventative maintenance services, proper oil sampling, recognition of problems related, but not limited to diagnosing hydraulic oil leaks and making proper repairs, fixing minor electrical issues, recognizing safety related issues (seat belt replacement, strobe lights, working light) operation and repair as needed.
Responsibilities:

  • Inspect various equipment and vehicles and document repairs as needed.
  • Properly grease and wash equipment as necessary.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on small and midsized Walbec equipment.
  • Ability to utilize operators and service manuals to complete tasks to manufacturer/company guidelines.
  • Complete tasks to specification, and to complete maintenance and/or repairs in a timely manner.
  • Create work orders properly including, charging out parts, billing out time, locating serial numbers and viewing the machine's history and proper documenting.
  • Ability to understand and follow shop procedures.
  • Recognize need for and use of proper PPE.
  • Ensure proper use of fall protection where required.
  • Proper recognition of stored energy sources and the ability to de-energize them according to best practices or manufacturer guidelines.
  • Proper use of lock out, tag out methods according to company protocols and procedures.
  • Proper use of double blocking and jacking procedure.
  • Proper use of diagnostic tools including multimeter, test light, and load tester to perform various repairs.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness including, sweeping floors, scrubbing surfaces, removing clutter, cleaning benches, taking out trash and hanging up cords. Cleaning up after yourself is important.


Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, vocational training, certification from an accredited organization, or combination of schooling or relevant work experience.
  • The ability to use hand signals and understand them is preferred, will train as required.
  • Ability to be a team player and work well with others is necessary.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Forklift and skid steer certification needed. Ability to obtain both is necessary.
  • Completion of the Shop Person Training Manual.


Preferred Skills:

  • 2 years of experience in a similar field preferred, but not necessary.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from others is necessary.
  • Strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and thoroughness. Along with a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Prior experience documenting repairs.
  • Valid CDL preferred, but not required. Ability to get a CDL a plus.


Additional Notes:

  • Must have reliable transportation and show up to work on time every day. The ability to travel frequently and work varied hours includingovertime as needed.
