Job Title: Alliant Service Technician

Department: Alliant Gas

FLSA Status: Non-exempt (Full-Time)

Reports to: Territory Director

Position Summary: 

The Service Technician duties include focusing on Alliant’s core values of Safety, Integrity, and Customer Service. Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations pertaining to the storage, installation, delivery, and usage of all products that Alliant Gas/Pinnacle Propane supplies. Operate within the Policy and Procedures outlined in Pinnacle Propane employee and operation manuals.


Essential Job Responsibilities: 

  • Set, Repair, Maintain meters
  • Install service lines to house, equipment, or building in accordance with Federal, State, Local regulations
  • Ensure that Company and Government Safety, policy and regulatory standards are met and maintained
  • Perform leak test and gas checks at customer sites
  • Operate service/company vehicles in accordance with company and government regulations
  • Maintain service/company vehicles by reviewing the maintenance record, perform pre and post trip inspections. Secure vehicles and equipment consistent with company security instructions and policy
  • Ability to operate construction equipment, i.e. backhoe, mini ex, skid steer, etc., strongly preferred
  • Troubleshoot propane systems and propane appliances for any problems
  • Convert gas appliances
  • Perform repairs and adjustments on propane equipment
  • During daily interaction with customers communicate clearly and effectively to convey information to new and existing customers
  • Maintain a professional image and superior customer service
  • Work a flexible schedule with after-hours and emergency call-outs
  • Communicate with the supervisor of any issues that might impact safety, customer satisfaction, productivity, and other established goals and standards
  • Prepare, complete, process, and maintain work orders and/or all job-related documentation
  • Ability to lift, carry, or push equipment up to 60lbs
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications: 

  • Class A or B CDL with Hazmat preferred or ability to obtain
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and speak the English language.
  • Ability to operate in adverse weather conditions, including off-road.
  • Ability to work around small animals, i.e. dogs, cats, etc.
  • Ability to abide by all DOT rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, manuals, and reports.
  • Complete Operator Qualification
  • Must maintain position OQ, any other required OQs, and classroom training or certifications
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Consistently demonstrates cooperative, team-oriented behavior.
  • Safety conscious and understand safe work practices for operating in the propane gas utility business
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform minor maintenance on equipment as well as ensure equipment is mechanically sound and in good working order at all times and report deficiencies to maintenance staff.
