Job description

Management is currently considering workers for year-round employment within the General Greenhouse Worker role to assist with the Ellepot machine and in other departments. We are accepting both new and current candidates for this role.
GENERAL GREENHOUSE WORKER (FTYR Ellepot/Planting)
Compensation: $17.84/hour (starting wage) to $18.50/hour (based on experience)
Status: Full-time Year-round; Hourly Agricultural
Schedule: 35-55+ hr/week (based on Greenhouse needs) Schedules generally start 7:00AM; 5-6 days per week. Hours average at 45 hours per week during the peak season (December - May). All candidates must have Saturday & Sunday availability.
Reports To: Operations Supervisor (Planting)
This is a General Greenhouse Worker position assigned to the Planting and Ellepot Machine operation. During peak season, the primary focus is creating Ellepot trays for propagation.
Greenhouse Workers work within greenhouse teams to assure quality young plants, flowers, vegetables, bedding plants, and other horticultural products are delivered to our customers. General Greenhouse Workers may be assigned to different processes/departments depending on the time of the year and report directly to an operations Supervisor at our North facility (in Brighton, CO). In addition to caring for plants, workers also must maintain area cleanliness, follow supervisor structure, and act in accordance with the rules and regulations set by TGE.
Hours during peak season for greenhouse workers vary from 35-55+ hours per week but typically average at approximately 45 hours per week.
~*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES*~
This position has a primary focus of Ellepot Machine Operation. However, daily tasks vary based on the time of year and product lines, but work assigned to greenhouse workers may include the following tasks or department work:
Seeding/Sticking/Planting
  • Mix/prepare soil/growing media.
  • Clean, prepare, and organize plastic materials (trays/pots).
  • Fill and label trays / pots
  • Plant, cultivate, and maintain nursery seedlings and plants.
  • Put trays onto conveyor belts.
  • Load/unload product from conveyor belts.

Movement (Internal Greenhouse)
  • Clean / Prepare greenhouse ranges
  • Move containerized plants or trays using racks on wheels (rolling carts).
  • Move product in accordance to plans and schedules set by Production (growing)

Greenhouse Ranges / Transplanting
  • Attach hangers to basket, crimp wire baskets, wrap coverings around plants, or prepare plants by digging, tying, or wrapping per supervisor instruction.
  • Work with plants, moving, planting, pinching, spacing, hanging baskets, putting trays/containers on benches, transplanting plugs, etc.
  • Use scissors/small knife to prune or take cuttings from stock plants for propagation purposes.

Production/Growing/Maintenance
  • Install/maintain irrigation systems and water lines.
  • Water/irrigate plants or apply fertilizers/pesticides/fungicides using a hose/wand when automated irrigation equipment is not available.
  • Dig and maintain ditches, clear debris from field and clean/maintain greenhouse buildings, structures, equipment, and agricultural work areas.
  • Assist with building, maintaining, or repairing greenhouse / farm areas. Build/repair fences or barriers.

Collation, Warehouse/Dock, Shipping & Receiving
  • Pull and process plugs and finished orders according to paperwork, shipping method, and instructions given by the Collation Supervisor
  • Organize product on docks for loading, pull and assemble orders in accordance with instruction.
  • Move orders, received materials, seeds, cuttings, and soil to designated inventory holding areas.
  • Load/unload trucks according to invoices and routing.
  • Build, maintain, or break down racks.

In addition to the above responsibilities, General Greenhouse Workers will be required to assist with various projects around the greenhouse as needed and directed by their Supervisor.
Supervisors routinely communicate and check-in with workers, however workers may be required to work independently, or in small groups following supervisor instructions is given to a primary contact within the group and only check-in periodically related to progress.
Requirements
General Greenhouse Workers must meet the below basic minimum requirements with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Must be 18 years or older and be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to work in all Greenhouse conditions including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot/cold temperatures.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently push/pull racks on wheels of up to 100lbs, and occasionally move benches or product of up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for intervals of 3-4 hours throughout a 5-10+hour shift.
  • Must be able to sit, reach overhead, bend/climb, maintain balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must have specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, and color vision
  • Must be able to work as a part of a team and communicate in a timely and respectful manner when speaking to clients, other greenhouse teams, managers, and coworkers.
  • Entry Level - no previous experience required, but preference is given to workers with at least 3 months of relevant experience in greenhouse/farm completing manual labor, factory, repetitive motion, agriculture, horticultural, or other relevant work experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. To prevent injury, employees must abide by the safety procedures set by Tagawa Greenhouse Ent., LLC. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
