A pawnbroker operates as an independent owner managing the appraisal, loan processing, and sale of pawned goods. This role involves working with a small team to evaluate and price a diverse range of items—often specializing in categories such as jewelry or electronics—while ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The pawnbroker must skillfully balance customer service with financial risk assessment to maintain a profitable and trustworthy business.

Responsibilities

  • Appraise pawned items accurately to determine value
  • Process loan applications and manage cash transactions
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Manage inventory of pawned goods efficiently
  • Analyze pricing to optimize profitability
  • Assess risk associated with loans and inventory
  • Provide excellent customer service and negotiate terms
  • Collaborate with a small team to support daily operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in customer service and cash handling
  • Strong negotiation skills
