Job Summary:
Raft is a customer-obsessed small business focused on Distributed Data Systems and Complex Application Development. They are seeking a Software Engineer (AI Focus) to develop user-facing applications that leverage AI technologies for operational environments, working closely with product managers and AI researchers.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Lead full-stack feature development from ideation to production in close coordination with product managers, AI researchers, and mission stakeholders
โ€ข Conduct user research and workflow analysis to identify inefficiencies and translate business requirements into AI-enabled technical solutions
โ€ข Build modern front-end applications using ReactJS, Tailwind, and component libraries integrated with LLM-based services (Claude, OpenAI, open-source models)
โ€ข Design and build backend APIs and microservices for scalable deployment and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
โ€ข Work with ML engineers to shape model prompts, feedback loops, and in-app integration based on user workflow requirements
โ€ข Support disconnected/air-gapped deployment patterns and ensure secure, testable, and maintainable code
โ€ข Collaborate with end users, developers, designers, and DevSecOps engineers to continuously improve AI-enabled workflow solutions
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข 3+ years of experience as a full stack engineer building modern web applications
โ€ข Strong proficiency in ReactJS and JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem
โ€ข Experience building and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs
โ€ข Understanding of AI/ML concepts and experience integrating AI services into applications
โ€ข Strong communication skills with ability to conduct user interviews and translate business requirements into technical solutions
โ€ข A user-centered mindset with attention to accessibility, responsiveness, and clean design
โ€ข Familiarity with state management, routing, component-driven development
โ€ข Understanding of secure coding practices in sensitive or regulated environments
โ€ข Comfort working in fast-paced, iterative development cycles and on cross-functional teams
โ€ข Obtain Security+ certification within the first 90 days of employment with Raft
โ€ข Active Secret with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
