What are promise jobs?

In programming, particularly in JavaScript, a 'Promise' is not a traditional job role, but rather a concept representing an asynchronous operation that can be completed in the future. Promise-related jobs usually refer to developers or engineers who work extensively with asynchronous code, using promises to handle operations like API requests, file reading, or other tasks that take time to complete. Understanding promises is essential for modern web development, as they help manage code execution and error handling more efficiently.

Did the US lose 33,000 jobs in June?

The job title Promise typically refers to a role involving commitments or agreements, not employment statistics. Regarding employment data, the US labor market reports monthly job gains or losses, but specific figures like a 33,000 job loss in June would be confirmed by official sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Job seekers should consult these reports for accurate, up-to-date information on employment trends.

What are some common challenges faced by Promise Managers in coordinating cross-functional teams?

Promise Managers often work with multiple departments to ensure that client commitments are fulfilled on time and to the expected standard. A common challenge is managing communication and aligning priorities among teams with different objectives or workflows. Balancing stakeholder expectations, resolving conflicts, and adapting to shifting project requirements are also typical hurdles. Successful Promise Managers leverage strong organizational and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and maintain progress toward shared goals.

What is the promise jobs program?

The Promise Jobs program is a work-based initiative that provides employment opportunities and support services to eligible individuals, often focusing on youth and low-income populations. It aims to promote self-sufficiency through job training, placement, and related resources. Participants may receive assistance with skills development and employment readiness to improve their job prospects.

What is the difference between Promise vs Project Coordinator?

AspectPromiseProject Coordinator

Work EnvironmentTech companies, startups, or service industries focusing on client commitmentsConstruction, IT, or corporate settings managing project timelines
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in service industries emphasizing commitments to clientsCommon in industries managing multiple projects and deadlines

What is the 70 30 rule in hiring?

The 70/30 rule in hiring suggests that employers should allocate approximately 70% of their focus to assessing a candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications, and 30% to evaluating cultural fit and soft skills. For roles like Promise, which may involve customer service or technical tasks, balancing technical competence with interpersonal abilities is essential during the hiring process.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Jobs that can pay around $4,000 a week without requiring a degree include skilled trades such as electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians, especially for those with experience and certifications. High-paying sales roles, such as real estate agents or insurance brokers, and certain transportation jobs like commercial truck drivers can also reach this income level with commissions or overtime. These roles often demand specialized skills, licensing, or a strong work ethic but do not necessarily require a college degree.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Promise (Project Manager), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need expertise in project planning, budgeting, risk management, and often a relevant degree or certification like PMP. Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira, and knowledge of project management methodologies are typically required. Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills set successful project managers apart. These skills are crucial for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to stakeholders' satisfaction.

Job description

Company Overview

Promise modernizes how government agencies and utilities support people in financial difficulty. We build technology that makes it simple for residents to receive benefits, engage with assistance programs, set up flexible payment plans, and stay on trackโ€”while helping agencies increase efficiency, recover revenue, and deliver services with dignity. Our mission is to transform public systems so they work better for everyone, especially the most vulnerable.

Our team includes experts from companies like Palantir, Google, Stripe , and esteemed government leaders. We work hard and believe deeply in what we do. We're looking for excellent people to build innovative, resilient technology.

Backed by over $50 million in funding from top investors โ€“ such as Reid Hoffman, Howard Schultz, Michael Seibel, Y Combinator, 8VC, The General Partnership, First Round Capital, Kapor Capital, XYZ Ventures, and Bronze Investments โ€“ Promise has been recognized as one of Fast Company's "World's Most Innovative Companies of 2022,โ€ โ€œForbes Next Billion-Dollar Startups 2024,โ€ and Y Combinatorโ€™s #1 GovTech startup.

About the Role

Promise is seeking a Forward Deployed Software Engineer whoโ€™s driven by impact, excited by challenge, and motivated by Promiseโ€™s mission: helping low-income families catch up on past-due bills and access the relief they deserve.

This is not your typical engineering role. Youโ€™ll be on the front linesโ€”working hand-in-hand with utilities and government partners, solving complex integration challenges, and making sure our technology actually delivers where it matters most: in peopleโ€™s lives. Youโ€™ll bring strong technical fundamentals together with empathy, patience, and the kind of customer savvy that turns a deployment into a long-term partnership.

Role Impact

In Washington State, Promise distributed $100M of energy aid in just three months, reaching nearly 700,000 households.

In Virginia and Florida, we helped ensure millions of dollars in water assistance funds reached families who might have otherwise gone without.

Our AI-powered eligibility verification now cuts approval times for programs like SNAP and LIHEAP from weeks to hours.

As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer, youโ€™ll be on the front lines making this kind of impact possible.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Be the bridge: Work directly with utilities and government agencies to integrate Promiseโ€™s payment and relief products into their existing systems.

  • Problem-solve in the wild: Dive into customer environments, untangling complexity and crafting creative technical solutions that actually work in the real world.

  • Level up the product: Improve Promiseโ€™s products -- you will have the first hand context of what works and doesn't, if you see something to build, build it!

  • Travel occasionally (up to 40% of the time): Join customers on-site to make sure things run smoothly and strengthen our relationships in person.

What Will Help You Succeed
  • Engineering chops: 4+ years of experience building and deploying production software, with fluency in environments that require adaptability and fast learning.

  • Customer instincts: Experience in a customer-facing technical role where you balanced empathy with technical rigor.

  • Tools of the trade: We use JavaScript / TypeScript, ETL tools, SQL, React โ€“ you donโ€™t need to be an expert on any of these! You do need to come with a willingness to learn.

  • Curiosity & grit: You donโ€™t wait for someone to tell you the answerโ€”you explore, experiment, and document so others can follow.

  • Collaboration: This is a cross-functional role where you will be working across engineering, design, product, delivery, and sales. FDEs work across team boundaries to get things done.

Who Thrives at PromiseYouโ€™ll love it here if:
  • You are energized by big, complex challenges and the opportunity to solve them.

  • You want your work to have a real, measurable impact on peopleโ€™s lives.

  • You take ownership and run toward problems, not away from them.

  • You value clear, candid, and constructive communication.

Promise is not for you if:
  • You prefer hierarchy and rigid structures. We operate with freedom and responsibility.

  • You are uncomfortable with change. We move fast, adapt often, and expect agility.

  • You want a typical corporate culture. We are mission-driven, ambitious, and direct.

  • You believe efficiency means โ€œdoing less.โ€ We believe efficiency means doing better.

How We Support Our People

At Promise, we invest in our teamโ€™s well-being, growth, and sense of ownership.

  • Equity for All: All full-time employees receive stock options to share in our companyโ€™s success.

  • 100% Paid Health Coverage: We cover 100% of base medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for employees and their dependents.

  • Hybrid Work: We collaborate in the office at least four days a week to stay connected and aligned as a team.

  • Flexible Time Off: Self-managed FTO and 12 paid holidays โ€” we trust you to prioritize your time.

Please note: Benefits are reviewed periodically and may be updated at the sole discretion of Promise.
