Project Safety Manager – Little Rock, ARPosition Overview

JGM is seeking an experienced Project Safety Manager with structural steel erection experience to support a long-term project in Little Rock, Arkansas (will be sent to other projects after).

This is a full-time, onsite field safety role supporting an active structural steel project expected to run 1+ year. The project will involve significant steel erection and welding activity, including work performed to AWS D1.1 and D1.8/seismic requirements.

Reporting to JGM’s Health & Safety leadership, the Safety Manager will work closely with project management, superintendents, foremen, craft employees, subcontractors, and client representatives to maintain a safe and compliant jobsite.

Pay: Starting at $38/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide full-time onsite safety support for JGM’s Little Rock structural steel project
• Conduct routine jobsite safety audits and inspections
• Monitor steel erection, welding, rigging, crane operations, bolt-up, and work at height
• Identify hazards and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented
• Audit subcontractors and prepare detailed safety reports
• Represent JGM with owners, client representatives, and regulatory agencies
• Lead new hire orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training
• Investigate injuries, incidents, near misses, and property damage
• Monitor compliance with fall protection, hot work, fire prevention, PPE, and steel erection requirements
• Develop and maintain site-specific safety plans and documentation
• Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA and project-specific safety requirements
• Support field leadership with hazard recognition, pre-task planning, and changing site conditions
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Requirements

• Hands-on safety experience supporting construction and/or structural steel erection
• Working knowledge of OSHA Subpart R – Steel Erection
• Experience around structural welding, rigging, cranes, aerial lifts, and elevated work
• Ability to identify hazards and confidently address unsafe conditions with field personnel
• Strong communication skills with craft employees, foremen, superintendents, and client representatives
• Ability to read and interpret regulations, site-specific safety plans, and construction drawings
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing field conditions
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to meet the physical demands of an active construction site
• Ability to fit-test and properly use required PPE
• Dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working extended project schedules

Preferred Qualifications

• CHST certification
• OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 501
• 5+ years of construction safety experience
• Direct safety experience in structural steel erection
• Strong knowledge of OSHA Subpart R
• Experience overseeing:
  • Rigging and crane picks
  • Connecting and bolt-up
  • Structural welding and hot work
  • Fall protection and work at height
  • Mobile equipment and aerial lifts
  • Steel erection sequencing
• Experience supporting projects involving AWS D1.1 and/or D1.8 seismic structural steel work
• Training experience in fall protection, mobile equipment, rigging, hazard recognition, and related construction safety topics

Work Environment

This position is based on an active structural steel construction site and requires regular interaction with steel erection, welding, rigging, cranes, mobile equipment, and elevated work activities.

The role requires frequent walking and standing throughout the jobsite, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in active construction conditions. Required PPE must be worn at all times.
