Job description

Risk Manager

Capital One's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Team has responsibility for helping the overall organization identify, manage, and mitigate key risks that may keep the company from achieving its strategic objectives. The Corporate Policy Office (CPO) is a dedicated group of professionals within ERM, focused on executing second line-of-defense oversight responsibilities by improving governance and quality of policy documents for Capital One.

The team is seeking a Risk Manager who will contribute to the establishment and execution of a sustainable policy program, including the strategies and processes, to govern and improve the quality of policy documents across the Enterprise. The Risk Manager will partner with stakeholders at all levels to develop, implement, and drive adherence to the enterprise policy program. The Risk Manager will build and maintain effective relationships with business partners.

Success in this position will rely heavily on working well with associates and leaders across the Enterprise. This role requires core strengths in Customer Focus, Influence, Problem Solving, and Communication. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with executives and enterprise-wide stakeholders, a demonstrated ability to manage processes through a risk lens, and an ability to assess and make improvements to the effectiveness of these processes. Additionally, the Risk Manager should have a comfort in developing and presenting materials in CPO-led forums. The ideal candidate also has prior experience working with policy, with an ability to read, analyze, and rationalize existing policy documents and consult with stakeholders on the creation of new policy documents. An attention to detail and commitment to collaboration and teamwork is required, while also having a strong ability to influence in driving results.

As a relationship manager, you are a key partner to the business areas and serve as a liaison between them and the CPO. You will be responsible for maintaining direct relationships with policy stakeholders to advise on the creation and management of policies and supporting documents that meet enterprise requirements and help identify issues to be escalated to the appropriate CPO forums. You will serve as the voice of the business area and advocate for the business area's policy needs. At the same time, a relationship manager will serve as the CPO's ambassador to the business areas to keep them abreast of any changes.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of a sustainable policy program to govern and improve the quality of policy documents across the Enterprise

  • Develop and deliver communications and presentations via ERM communication channels and CPO-led forums

  • Write, contribute to, edit, and deliver other communications (including presentations) that aid in the design, development, refinement, and usage of risk management functions, practices, and activities

  • Engage in the review of policy documents and partners with policy stakeholders to drive consistency and improve content in policy documents

  • Conduct effective challenge on policy documents at various stages in the policy management lifecycle

  • Conduct adherence monitoring to evaluate adherence to the enterprise policy program and the effectiveness of adherence practices within respective policy documents

  • Consult and support stakeholders in establishing required policy adherence practices

  • Analyze policy management data to identify risks, process improvements, and areas for increased training

  • Lead executing specialized initiatives aimed at evolving and improving the company's policy program

  • Develop training and other tools and resources for managing policy documents

  • Demonstrate strong business judgment, leadership, and integrity

  • Collaborate effectively with senior leadership across organizations such as Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Legal, Technology, Internal Audit, Regulatory Relations, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of audit, quality assurance or risk management experience

  • At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

  • At least 2 years of experience in process or project management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Juris Doctorate (JD)

  • 4+ years of audit, quality assurance or risk management experience

  • 3+ years of experience in process or project management

  • Policy management experience

  • Workiva or Wdesk experience

  • Technical writing experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
