Job description

Project Manager — General Contractor – Commercial Construction

AH Construction | Virginia | $110,000 – $150,000

About AH Construction

AH Construction is an expanding commercial general contractor committed to building exceptional projects and an exceptional team. We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join us in Virginia Beach, VA and take a leadership role in the successful delivery of our commercial construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. If you are a hands-on construction leader who takes pride in delivering results, building relationships, and raising the bar on every project — we want to hear from you.

The Opportunity

As a Project Manager at AH Construction, you will lead the coordination of owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and AH Construction’s internal teams, driving projects from planning through completion with a relentless focus on quality, budget, safety, schedule, collaboration, and results that exceed client expectations. Our emphasis is on multi-family, office/mixed use, and retail. This is a high-impact role for someone who is ready to own it — not just manage it. High Performing PMs have a clear path to Senior PM and Project Executive roles. We promote from within and invest in our people’s long-term growth.

What You'll Do

  • Lead projects end-to-end — from preconstruction planning through final closeout and client turnover
  • Own the schedule and budget — develop, monitor, and actively manage project financials and milestones
  • Drive contract administration — subcontracts, change orders, pay applications, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
  • Manage procurement — coordinate materials, equipment, and subcontractor services to support project schedules
  • Identify and solve problems proactively — anticipate risks before they impact cost, schedule, or client satisfaction
  • Lead project meetings — owner, design, subcontractor, and internal coordination meetings
  • Partner with the Superintendent — monitor field operations and ensure work is performed safely and per contract documents
  • Champion safety — foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with AH Construction's policies and applicable regulations
  • Manage closeout — punch lists, as-builts, O&M manuals, warranties, final inspections, and final payment documentation
  • Build relationships — maintain long-term, trust-based relationships with clients, design professionals, and trade partners
  • Develop your team — mentor, motivate, and lead project team members in a collaborative and accountable environment
  • Support growth — participate in estimating, proposals, interviews, and business development efforts

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
  • 3–5+ years of project management experience with a commercial general contractor
  • Experience managing $25M+ commercial construction projects highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, contracts, scheduling, procurement, and subcontractor management
  • Proven ability to build productive relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with strong decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with Vista and Autodesk, or similar platforms preferred
  • DBIA and/or LEED accreditation is a plus

 What Success Looks Like

At AH Construction, a great Project Manager is more than someone who tracks a schedule and watches a budget. You anticipate problems before they become problems. You communicate clearly and consistently. You know when to make a call, when to ask for help, and how to bring people together to solve tough challenges.

You understand that great construction is built on great relationships — with clients, trade partners, design professionals, and your own team. You deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to a standard that makes both AH Construction and our clients proud.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $110,000 – $150,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Competitive benefits package
  • Bonus structure
  • 401(k) match
  • Vehicle allowance and gas card
  • Generous PTO
  • Paid holidays
  • Health benefits with generous employer contributions
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement
  • A collaborative, high-performing team environment

Location & Work Environment

This position is based in Virginia and includes a combination of active jobsite presence and office-based work. Project Managers should expect to navigate construction environments, work alongside field teams, and remain responsive during critical project phases. Flexibility matters in construction — and we appreciate team members who bring the same commitment to the project that we do. Travel may be required.

Why AH Construction?

  • Take meaningful ownership of major commercial projects
  • Work directly with clients, design professionals, and company leadership
  • Grow your career within a growing, relationship-driven organization
  • Be part of a team built on integrity, accountability, collaboration, and doing the right thing

Ready to take ownership of something great? Apply today and tell us about the projects you're most proud of. We'd love to connect. Send your resume to humanresources@ahccompany.com.
