How does a project planner typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project's lifecycle?

Project Planners play a central role in coordinating with various departments such as engineering, procurement, and quality assurance to ensure project milestones are met. They facilitate regular meetings, share updated schedules, and address any resource conflicts or timeline risks. Effective communication and negotiation skills are essential, as Project Planners often need to balance competing priorities and align all team members towards common goals. This collaboration helps anticipate potential delays and ensures that everyone remains informed and accountable throughout the project.

Is project planning a good career?

Project planning is a viable career that involves organizing, scheduling, and managing resources to complete projects efficiently. It requires skills in communication, organization, and often familiarity with project management tools like MS Project or Primavera. The role offers opportunities across various industries and can lead to advancement into project management positions.

MIC provides turnkey facility integration solutions, including cleanroom and MEP construction, DI water, gas and chemical supply systems, wastewater treatment, facility monitoring and control systems, installation, and maintenance services. Through Marketech International Corporation USA, we support major semiconductor and industrial projects across the United States.

Job Overview

Marketech International Corporation USA is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Planner to support detailed construction scheduling, project coordination, schedule tracking, and progress reporting for semiconductor construction and facility-related projects.

This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing integrated project schedules for construction, engineering, tool installation, cleanroom build-out, utility systems, commissioning, and other high-tech project scopes. The Project Planner will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and client representatives to monitor progress, identify schedule risks, validate sequencing, and help ensure critical project milestones are completed on time.

The ideal candidate has experience in construction scheduling, project controls, critical path management, and progress reporting within a fast-paced construction or industrial environment. Experience supporting semiconductor fabs, cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing, data centers, utilities, or other complex construction projects is highly preferred. Experience with Primavera P6, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Excel, CPM scheduling, and schedule recovery planning is strongly preferred.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Scheduling & Schedule Development
  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed construction project schedules using drawings, specifications, scope documents, baseline schedules, contractor inputs, and project requirements.
  • Build integrated schedules covering multiple project phases, including site preparation, civil work, structural work, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, cleanroom build-out, utility installation, tool installation, commissioning, turnover, and project closeout.
  • Establish and maintain work breakdown structures, activity logic, task durations, dependencies, milestones, constraints, and schedule assumptions.
  • Identify critical path activities, near-critical work, long-lead materials, key milestones, schedule constraints, and sequencing requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, general contractors, and owner representatives to collect schedule inputs and validate construction sequencing.
  • Incorporate engineering changes, scope adjustments, design revisions, claims, delays, recovery plans, and approved project changes into the project schedule.
  • Support the development of baseline schedules, detailed look-ahead schedules, milestone plans, and project-specific reporting tools.
Progress Tracking & Schedule Updates
  • Monitor actual construction progress against approved baseline schedules through site walks, contractor updates, daily reports, weekly reports, field observations, and project meetings.
  • Conduct weekly, biweekly, and monthly schedule updates, including progress validation, variance analysis, forecasting, and milestone tracking.
  • Track progress by work area, contractor, trade, discipline, milestone, construction phase, and project scope.
  • Prepare reports identifying completed work, upcoming activities, delayed tasks, constraints, schedule risks, and critical path impacts.
  • Maintain accurate schedule records, progress updates, completion percentages, assumptions, revisions, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify schedule slippage early and communicate potential impacts, root causes, and corrective-action needs to the project team.
  • Support short-term planning efforts by providing look-ahead schedules and activity forecasts to field and construction teams.
Risk Management & Schedule Recovery
  • Identify potential schedule risks, including material delays, labor shortages, design changes, access restrictions, permitting delays, regulatory approvals, weather impacts, safety concerns, and contractor performance issues.
  • Support schedule recovery planning when delays occur by evaluating acceleration options, resequencing opportunities, mitigation strategies, and resource-adjustment plans.
  • Develop and evaluate what-if schedule scenarios to assess the impact of project changes, delays, scope changes, and recovery efforts.
  • Communicate schedule risks, critical path impacts, and mitigation recommendations clearly to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support project teams in reducing downtime, improving trade coordination, protecting critical milestones, and maintaining project momentum.
  • Assist with evaluating schedule impacts related to change orders, claims, unforeseen site conditions, and other project disruptions.
Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and site teams to maintain alignment on project schedules and milestone commitments.
  • Participate in project meetings, schedule review meetings, contractor coordination meetings, progress-update discussions, and planning sessions.
  • Present schedule status, critical path updates, risk items, milestone forecasts, delays, and recovery recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support communication between field teams, engineering teams, construction teams, project controls personnel, and project leadership.
  • Coordinate with project teams to obtain timely progress updates, validate completion status, and resolve discrepancies in schedule information.
  • Prepare management reports, schedule narratives, executive summaries, progress dashboards, and other project-control documentation as needed.
Schedule Compliance & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure schedules align with contract requirements, construction sequencing requirements, project standards, safety expectations, quality requirements, and semiconductor site protocols.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of schedule updates, assumptions, revisions, changes, delays, recovery actions, and project impacts.
