Gibson Dunn is a leading global law firm, advising clients on significant transactions and disputes. Based in Los Angeles (preferred), Century City, Orange County, San Francisco or Palo Alto, the Litigation Paralegal Supervisor will oversee the Litigation paralegal staff across our California offices, ensuring quality service and support is provided to attorneys and partners.

This role reports directly to the Associate Director of Paralegal Services and works closely with the Paralegal Services Manager on the East Coast to ensure consistent management, training, and support across offices nationwide.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee a growing department of 19+ litigation paralegals across our California offices.
  • Acts as a liaison between attorneys/partners and paralegals, ensuring projects are completed.
  • Coordinate workflow with Paralegal Services Manager and Litigation Paralegal Workflow Coordinators to allocate equal distribution of litigation case and project assignments.
  • Guides litigation paralegals in maintaining appropriate workloads and monitors quality of work.
  • Monitors billable hour requirements of all litigation paralegals.
  • Track, review, and approve time and attendance for all litigation paralegals.
  • Identify staffing needs for litigation team; aids with the recruitment of full-time and temporary paralegals.
  • Assist with design and implementation of paralegal training and department procedures.
  • Ensures successful onboarding and training is administrated to new joiners
  • Periodically provide litigation support and ensure projects and timelines are met, as needed.
  • Participate in mid-year and year-end performance evaluation for litigation paralegals.
  • Conduct meetings with litigation paralegal team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

AI & Innovation Leadership:

  • Champion adoption of firm-approved AI tools within the litigation paralegal team, ensuring consistent, high-quality use across the firm.
  • Mentor and train litigation paralegals on AI-enabled workflows, including prompt engineering fundamentals and quality control of AI-generated work product.
  • Evaluate AI tools and pilot workflows in partnership with attorneys, escalating opportunities to expand or refine AI use within litigation matters.
  • Partner with the Gibson Dunn AI Institute, Knowledge Management, and Legal Technology to identify and implement AI-driven improvements to litigation paralegal workflows.
  • Monitor AI tool usage and outcomes across the team, ensuring outputs meet firm standards for accuracy, confidentiality, and client service.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with members across multiple offices in a fast-paced environment.ย 
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in organizing complicated projects and directing and supervising the work of others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and able to multi-task, balancing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proactive and able to handle efficiently handle multiple projects and client matters simultaneously.
  • Superior analytical and reasoning abilities.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Good judgment and ability to maintain confidence or personal and sensitive information.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required.
  • 7+ of work experience as a Litigation Paralegal in a major law firm.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • AI-enabled, with working knowledge of prompt engineering and AI tools used in legal workflows; comfort training others on their use strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and document management systems.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $180-210k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
