The above reflects the anticipated annual salary range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.
The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
Step into a high-impact role where your expertise in planning, design, construction, and collaboration will help shape the environments where exceptional patient care happens. As a Project Manager on the RWJBarnabas Health Planning, Design & Construction team, you will lead capital projects from concept through completion, partnering with physicians, clinicians, facilities teams, contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to bring complex projects to life.
The Project Manager role may be the perfect fit for you if you thrive on turning ideas into action, enjoy managing complex projects, and take pride in delivering high-quality results within established budgets and timelines. If you are a strategic thinker, strong communicator, and confident leader who can bring diverse teams together to solve problems and move projects forward, this opportunity offers the challenge, impact, and purpose you are seeking.
As a Project Manager, a typical day might include the following:
  • Managing capital projects ranging from approximately ~$25K to ~$25M from planning and scope definition through construction and completion.
  • Developing and managing project budgets, schedules, logistics, and overall project expectations.
  • Providing project management support of RWJBH Construction and Project Delivery Team through assisting AVP of Construction & Delivery with responsibilities related to the delivery of projects and ad-hoc requests.
  • Partnering with physicians, clinicians, end users, Facilities Management, and leadership to understand project needs and establish appropriate scope and budget.
  • Engaging and coordinating architects, engineers, construction managers, developers, estimators, equipment planners, contractors, and other professional partners.
  • Developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and negotiating terms and conditions with professional service providers.
  • Monitoring project performance against contracts, budgets, schedules, and established quality standards.
  • Reviewing invoices, change orders, approval letters, and supporting documentation to ensure projects remain financially and operationally aligned.
  • Conducting regular site visits to monitor construction progress, quality, safety, and adherence to approved plans.
  • Coordinating construction logistics, equipment procurement, services, and other activities necessary to keep projects moving forward.
  • Leading regular project meetings, communicating progress to stakeholders, documenting concerns, and driving timely resolution of issues.
  • Ensuring required applications and permits are properly filed with applicable local, state, and federal authorities.
  • Coordinating utility relocations, shutdowns, inspections, testing, and other activities that require collaboration between RWJBH personnel, vendors, and outside professionals.
  • Ensuring projects comply with applicable healthcare construction codes, standards, regulations, and requirements.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously while balancing competing priorities, deadlines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations.

The Project Manager role might be for you if:
  • You enjoy bringing complex projects from concept to completion and seeing your work make a tangible impact.
  • You are a natural collaborator who can bring physicians, clinicians, facilities teams, contractors, and professional consultants together around a common goal.
  • You are comfortable managing significant budgets, firm deadlines, and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • You can resolve conflict, build consensus, and keep projects moving when challenges arise.
  • You communicate clearly and confidently with executives, leadership, end users, vendors, contractors, and project teams.
  • You have strong organizational and information-management skills and can translate complex project information into clear recommendations and next steps.
  • You understand the importance of healthcare-specific construction standards, code compliance, safety, and operational continuity.
  • You take ownership of your projects and are committed to delivering quality results on time and within budget.
  • You lead with integrity and are proud to represent the RWJBarnabas Health mission, vision, and values.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. You must have at least 5 years of progressive project management experience in a hospital, medical center, or healthcare environment with demonstrated experience managing healthcare projects with knowledge of applicable building codes, regulatory requirements, and healthcare standards. Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contractors, consultants, and multiple stakeholders. Process familiarity with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Revit, and project scheduling software. Preferred qualifications include Master's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
As part of our Planning, Design & Construction team, you'll have the opportunity to manage projects that directly support the growth and evolution of New Jersey's leading academic health system. From renovations and infrastructure improvements to major capital projects, your leadership will help create modern, safe, and innovative spaces designed around the needs of our patients, families, physicians, and employees.
If you're ready to lead projects that have a lasting impact on healthcare and the communities we serve, we invite you to bring your expertise, leadership, and vision to RWJBarnabas Health.
