Transmission Project Manager
Job Summary:

  • The Transmission Project Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the execution of transmission line and substation capital projects.
  • The role provides leadership throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout activities.
  • The Project Manager is accountable for project scope, schedule, budget, risk management, stakeholder coordination, and overall project delivery success.
  • The Transmission PM with 2 to 15 years of experience will manage the execution of multiple transmission projects.
  • The position will involve coordinating with multiple internal and external departments to manage the life cycle of project execution. Responsible for project execution, contract administration, planning and resource management.
  • Take ownership for all aspects of project performance including safety, schedule, budget, reporting and communication throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Manage and direct the project team to ensure accountability.
  • Mentor and coach team members.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with stakeholders.
  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed safely, satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
  • Support the reporting of key performance indicators for schedule, budget, and other dashboard items.
  • Identify and control construction risk.
  • Recognize, identify, track and control change.
  • Communicate and consult with appropriate stakeholders and leadership.
  • Analyze issues and provide solutions to improve results.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Execution & Leadership
  • Lead transmission line and substation capital projects from initiation through closeout.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, outage planning, operations, land, environmental, finance, and stakeholder activities.
  • Direct cross-functional project teams and vendors.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and within budget.

 

Schedule & Cost Management:

  • Work with Project Controls team to develop and manage project schedules.
  • Monitor project progress and key milestones.
  • Analyze project performance and forecast potential schedule or budget risks.
  • Work with Project Controls team to track costs, support variance analysis, and provide financial reporting.

 

Risk Management:

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Escalate critical issues requiring management decisions.
  • Lead project change management processes.
  • Conduct post-project reviews and share lessons learned.

 

Stakeholder Management:

  • Communicate project status to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with engineering, construction, operations, customers, contractors, and regulatory groups.
  • Facilitate resolution of project conflicts and competing priorities.

 

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, outage coordination, permitting, land acquisition, and regulatory processes.
  • Experience with project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tool Suite including calendar management, Power Point presentations, and Excel.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • BS degree from an accredited engineering program or a management/business degree.
  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing transmission line and substation projects is a plus.
  • Understanding of transmission systems and utility operations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with utility project gated processes and capital project governance is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Oracle financial applications, and Primavera schedules is a plus.
