Job description

Spang Power Electronics, a division of Spang & Company, has an excellent career opportunity for a Software Engineering Manager based at our Mentor, OH location. Spang Power Electronics is headquartered in Mentor, OH, with sites in Sandy Lake, PA, and Xiamen, China. This position will be responsible for leading the development of and the team assigned to embedded software, including project management, software design, software/hardware integration, and internal/external customer technical support. The position will be fully on-site.

Spang Power Electronics is a premier provider of high-quality power solutions and proprietary technology for the worldโ€™s most critical industries. We design and manufacture systems and products for industrial control applications all over the world, specializing in SCR Power Controllers, custom Transformers, and AC/DC Power Systems.

Primary responsibilities will include:
  • Lead the development of embedded software for digital power control systems using high power SCR's and IGBT's to generate both DC and AC output power.
  • Architect and implement firmware for real-time control on MCUs, DSPs, or FPGAs using C/C++ or similar low-level languages.
  • Manage and mentor a team of 2โ€“5 engineers; conduct code reviews, performance evaluations, and provide technical coaching.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, systems, and product teams to define software requirements and interface specifications.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in embedded development, including version control, unit testing, and documentation.
  • Own the full software development lifecycle from concept to production and support.
  • Perform debugging of complex embedded systems in lab environments.
  • Occasional travel, up to 10%.

Qualifications include a Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. A Masterโ€™s Degree is preferred.7+ years of experience in embedded software development, with at least 2 years managing or leading engineering teams is required. Candidates should have proficiency in C/C++ for real-time embedded systems; experience with RTOS environments and strong experience in digital control of power systems (PID control, loop stability, voltage/current regulation).
