A Project Manager with Secret Clearance is a professional responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects within organizations that handle sensitive or classified information. The 'Secret Clearance' refers to a security authorization granted by the government, allowing the individual to access information classified as 'Secret.' This role is common in defense, government contracting, and certain technology sectors, where project managers must safeguard confidential data throughout the project lifecycle. The clearance process involves a thorough background check to ensure the individual's reliability and trustworthiness. Project managers with this clearance play a crucial role in ensuring both project success and information security.

Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Project, Jira, and compliance systems such as NIST or DoD frameworks is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills are critical for managing cross-functional teams and sensitive projects. These competencies ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with strict security and regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges faced by project managers with secret clearance when coordinating cross-functional teams?

Job description

A3 Consulting is seeking a Senior Project Manager to manage daily operations, deliverable execution, stakeholder coordination, quality control, and reporting cadence for a federal mission-support engagement. If you’d enjoy serving as the team’s operational lead, ensuring day-to-day activities remain aligned with client priorities, reporting needs, quality expectations, and delivery timelines, this role is for you!
In this role you will:
  • Manage the daily and weekly operating rhythm for the delivery team.
  • Maintain the deliverable tracker, action tracker, decision log, risk tracker, meeting cadence, reporting calendar, and client review schedule.
  • Convert client priorities and leadership direction into executable tasks, owners, due dates, dependencies, and deliverable milestones.
  • Coordinate with team members to collect, validate, organize, and package inputs for client-facing deliverables.
  • Run deliverable quality reviews before submission, including checks for accuracy, traceability, completeness, formatting, readability, and executive readiness.
  • Track client comments, maintain comment disposition, coordinate revisions, and ensure deliverables move through review to acceptance.
  • Support transition-in and transition-out planning, artifact inventory, repository setup, knowledge-transfer activities, and continuity planning.
  • Prepare meeting materials, minutes, status updates, executive-ready summaries, management reports, and follow-up actions.
  • Coordinate with schedule, dashboard, risk, resource, and reporting analysts to keep all products aligned and current.
  • Ensure recurring reports, dashboards, action trackers, and decision logs reflect the latest approved information.
  • Identify delivery risks, quality issues, resource constraints, and schedule impacts early, and recommend corrective actions to the Program Manager.
  • Maintain repository discipline, naming conventions, version control, and artifact traceability for submitted and working products.
  • Support performance reporting and quality-management activities, including preparation for client reviews, corrective actions, and deliverable resubmissions.
  • Help enforce non-personal services boundaries by ensuring recommendations and analysis are clearly distinguished from client decisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Data/Analytics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of federal project management, PMO, delivery management, or operations coordination experience.
  • PMP, SAFe Agilist, Scrum, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent program/agile experience or certification preferred.
  • Experience managing CDRLs, status reporting, action logs, decision logs, quality reviews, and comment resolution.
  • Experience supporting transition, knowledge transfer, artifact inventories, repository setup, and continuity planning.
  • Strong writing, organization, facilitation, stakeholder-management, and follow-up skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across technical, analytical, reporting, and management functions.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, short suspense timelines, and multiple deliverables without losing quality discipline.
  • Experience preparing executive summaries, meeting minutes, status reports, governance materials, and leadership-facing deliverables.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or similar project and collaboration tools.
Security Clearance:
  • Active Secret clearance or higher required.
Location:
  • Remote (DC Metro Area)
Salary Range:
  • The salary range of this position is $145,000 - $170,000 commensurate with experience and achievement.
