Job description

Position Summary:

The Project Engineer provides technical and administrative support to project management and field operations teams on HVAC, mechanical, and piping construction projects. This role assists with project documentation, submittals, RFIs, scheduling, procurement, cost tracking, and coordination between field personnel, vendors, and clients. The Project Engineer plays a key role in supporting successful project execution by ensuring accurate communication, timely documentation, and adherence to project specifications and company standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Project Administration & Documentation

  • Assist Project Managers with the administration and execution of mechanical construction projects.
  • Prepare, track, and maintain project documentation, including contracts, drawings, and specifications.
  • Process and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate project files and records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists and turnover documentation.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and look-ahead plans.
  • Coordinate with field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure timely project execution.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate updates to project teams.
  • Participate in project meetings and document meeting minutes and action items.
  • Support procurement activities and material tracking to maintain project schedules.

Financial & Cost Support

  • Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
  • Review invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor documentation.
  • Track labor productivity and project expenditures.
  • Support change order pricing and documentation.
  • Help identify and communicate potential cost or schedule impacts.

Technical Support

  • Review project drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with interpreting plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and field teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Support quality control efforts to ensure work meets project requirements and industry standards.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, or piping projects preferred.
  • Internship or entry-level construction experience is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation and project processes is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction management software preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
