Job description

About us

We’re EMS-Tech Inc., a highly successful and expanding engineering firm that specializes in the design and supply (OEM) of bulk material handling equipment. For over 35 years we have delivered projects great and small around the world.  We are dedicated to supplying high-quality large-scale machines and systems and providing innovative, custom solutions.

With our headquarters in Ontario, Canada, and offices in Vancouver, the Netherlands, China, and Australia, we are constantly pushing the envelope related to self-unloading ships, stackers, stacker-reclaimers, shiploaders and conveyor systems.

Role & Responsibilities

As a Quality Assurance Technician, you’ll be the bridge between project teams (engineering, design, project management, procurement) and global suppliers, ensuring strict adherence to quality requirements. You'll support the quality plan, monitor inspection test plans, material certifications, test and inspection reports, and other quality documents, and provide feedback to support the entire project lifecycle.

If you are passionate about quality, excel at building collaborative relationships and are ready to bring your technical expertise and a proactive approach to a dynamic team, apply today!

Here are some of the things you’ll be working on:

  • Collaborate with design, engineering and procurement teams to define quality requirements and manage quality documents and supplier performance.
  • Work with engineering and design teams to identify areas where design standards can support quality (continuous improvement, lessons learned). Track and resolve open issues pertaining to projects, develop control documents, and other customer and engineering required quality documentation.
  • Conduct targeted in-person inspections at vendor and client sites worldwide
  • Participate in vendor pre-qualification and renewal quality assessments
  • Track and evaluate supplier progress, ensuring QC standards align with purchase orders, scope of work, and contractual requirements.
  • Facilitate cross-functional investigations on quality issues, providing solutions and technical recommendations.
  • Review customer requirements during project planning and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, review, and manage QC documents and inspection records with precision.
  • Provide written technical responses to inspectors, suppliers and customers on quality issues.

Qualifications

  • Engineering Technologist diploma or an Engineering or Applied Science degree, ideally with familiarity in structural, hydraulic, and electrical components. Special consideration to formal Inspection accreditations (CGSB) and technical courses with industry specific experience.
  • Previous experience in a machine and fabrication shop or heavy machinery manufacturing environment is highly regarded and may substitute for formal educational qualifications.
  • CWB Level 1 - Certification
  • Welding and Fabrication Technician Certification
  • Familiarity with industry standards (CWB, AWS, ASTM, SSPC) and proficiency in MS Office is required; being able to interpret industrial construction drawings is a must.
  • Exceptional communication skills to address and resolve quality issues.
  • Ability to balance autonomous decision-making with effective team collaboration to problem-solve complex issues.
  • Strong technical writing skills for reports and documentation
  • An understanding of the critical role ethics plays in quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret weld symbols as applicable. Availability for travel to supplier sites both locally and internationally as required. Valid passport and driver’s license are required.

Not Required Qualifications, But a Plus

  • Non-Destructive Examination Certification
  • Metallurgy Certification

What We Offer

  • A collaborative, values-based team culture and stable working environment
  • Extended healthcare coverage including health, vision, dental, and more
  • 5% Employer Paid Pension Plan
  • Paid vacation plus 5 Family Responsibility Days annually
  • Health care spending account
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Career development opportunities
