About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Associate Project Manager with strong interpersonal skills and experience in natural resources, cultural resources, environmental permitting, or related environmental consulting services. This individual will support projects through all phases from early planning and permitting to construction while developing project management skills and growing into increasing levels of responsibility.
The Assistant Project Manager will support the delivery of natural resources, cultural resources, and permitting services to clients across a variety of market sectors, helping clients meet project development and regulatory compliance objectives. Experience supporting energy development projects is a plus.
This is a regular, benefited, full-time remote position. Candidates must be located in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, or Tennessee, with a preference for those located in the Atlanta, GA metropolitan area.
What you will accomplish
  • Support Project Managers in the successful delivery of projects by assisting with schedules, budgets, task management, and client deliverables.
  • Coordinate and support multidisciplinary teams providing natural resources, cultural resources, and permitting services to clients.
  • Serve as a task lead for project components of varying size and complexity.
  • Conduct or support biological field assessments, wetland delineations, cultural resources assessments, and environmental permitting efforts.
  • Prepare permit applications, technical reports, environmental documentation, and agency coordination materials.
  • Support projects involving energy, infrastructure, land development, and other client sectors, including FERC-regulated projects and third-party NEPA documentation.
  • Assist with agency coordination and permit compliance activities.
  • Support QA/QC review of field data, technical reports, permit applications, and environmental documentation.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, field crews, clients, contractors, and third parties.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, client relationship development, and opportunity tracking.
  • Utilize strong organizational, verbal, written, and graphic communication skills in project execution and stakeholder engagement.
  • Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans (when applicable), and anticipate potential safety hazards.

Experience and qualifications for success
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental-related field.
  • Three years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, including 1 year of managing projects.
  • Experience supporting projects and/or providing natural resources, cultural resources, and permitting services to clients.
  • Experience managing project tasks, coordinating field efforts, or supporting project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word).
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting laws and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of related experience is preferred;
  • Experience supporting energy development projects, including generation, transmission, renewable energy, and/or oil and gas.
  • Experience in regulatory permitting in the Southeast.
  • FERC-related infrastructure project experience.
  • Experience supporting solar generation projects in the Southeast.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary teams providing natural resources, cultural resources, and permitting services.
  • Experience with NEPA compliance, environmental review, or agency consultation processes.

An employee in this Southeast based position can expect a salary of $66,612.00 to $85,176.00/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
