Manager, Network Engineering (Fiber/Wireline)
The Manager, Network Engineering is a leadership opportunity within Logix's Network Engineering department, overseeing organization-wide network systems and information while managing major engineering projects, system updates, upgrades, migrations and outages. This role focuses on IP/MPLS and optical networking technologies, including BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, OSPF, ROADM, DWDM, carrier Ethernet, and Juniper, Cisco, Nokia and Ciena platforms. This is a full-time position.
As the Manager, Network Engineering, you will lead the Network Engineering team, manage projects and network capacity, evaluate and test new technologies, develop budgets and cost-benefit analyses, and provide technical recommendations to upper management. The role combines technical leadership, team development, strategic planning, project management and operational oversight, while partnering with other leaders across Logix to support collaboration and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Advanced knowledge of ROADM and DWDM based fiber optic networks
  • Advanced knowledge of MPLS, including LDP, RSVP-TE or segment routing concepts, Layer 2/Layer 3 VPNs, traffic engineering, and carrier Ethernet services.
  • Deep hands-on experience with BGP, including route policy, communities, route reflectors, peering, transit, customer routing, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong operational and design experience with IS-IS and OSPF in large-scale routed networks.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, and Ciena platforms in production carrier environments.
  • Strong understanding of carrier network design principles, including redundancy, resiliency, convergence, QoS, scalability, and operational supportability.
  • Ability to analyze packet captures, routing tables, forwarding behavior, telemetry, logs, and performance data to isolate and resolve complex issues.
  • Experience developing detailed network documentation, method-of-procedure documents, test plans, and implementation plans.
  • Operating knowledge of inventory management and order processing applications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Creative and organizational skills to work through projects producing accurate and effective end results.
  • Ability to collect data, establish facts, define problem(s), and evaluate seriousness of problem(s).
  • Recommended to have a college degree or 15+ years' experience in major area.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Familiarity with optical transport systems, including ROADM, DWDM, coherent optics, wavelength services, and optical layer troubleshooting.
  • Experience with carrier automation, telemetry, or configuration management tools such as Python, Ansible, NETCONF, YANG, gNMI, or vendor-specific APIs.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as JNCIP/JNCIE, CCNP/CCIE Service Provider, Nokia NRS, or Ciena certifications.
  • Experience supporting network modernization, IP/optical convergence, segment routing, EVPN, DCI, or large-scale backbone expansion initiatives.
What You Will Be Doing
  • Responsible for the creation and management of all projects within Network Engineering.
  • Manages network capacity reports on a weekly basis.
  • Manages the evaluation and testing of new technologies and provides recommendations to upper management.
  • Coordinates with engineering staff for daily work assignments, reports and analytics as it relates to the Network Engineering daily workload.
  • Provides departmental reports to upper management as needed.
  • Develops budgets and cost benefit analysis for network-based projects.
  • Assists in current and future optical network designs.
  • Organizes and communicates departmental objectives to the group in an effective manner.
  • Provides oversight and input on the process workflows for Network Engineering ticket activities and implementation of new technologies.
  • Required to attend and or setup meetings within the group as well as other departments as needed.
  • Manages all Lab testing projects as well as the production of all supporting documentation.
  • Ensures the proper creation, review and implementation of change management procedures are followed and distributed as needed by Network Engineering.
  • Performs other duties requested by the Director of Engineering or as business needs dictate.
  • First line escalation for the Network Engineering on-call person.
  • Responsible for departmental and individual performance reviews.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring and evaluating employees.
  • Hires, motivates, coaches and develops employees.
  • Plans and allocates resources and follows budgets.
  • Makes recommendations that align with strategy.
  • Partners with other leaders in Logix and encourages team collaboration.
