Job Summary

DataOne Systems is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Characterization Lead / Project Manager to oversee fiber testing projects from start to finish. This role leads field crews, manages test equipment and schedules, ensures accurate test results and documentation, and serves as the primary customer contact throughout the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate fiber optic characterization and testing projects, including CD/PMD and long-shot testing.

  • Manage assigned test equipment and ensure all equipment is properly calibrated.

  • Direct, train, and monitor technicians to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency.

  • Coordinate testing activities with customer maintenance windows and project schedules.

  • Verify test results and ensure accurate, complete project documentation.

  • Prepare and deliver daily reports and customer project updates.

  • Perform quality assurance and review final reports for accuracy.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, providing project status updates and technical support.

  • Attend project planning and progress meetings as required.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide guidance to field technicians.

  • Ensure compliance with company, customer, and telecommunications health and safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 10+ years of telecommunications experience, with demonstrated fiber characterization experience.

  • Proven proficiency as a Fiber Characterization Technician (B-Side).

  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic testing, troubleshooting, and test equipment.

  • Experience leading crews and managing multiple projects.

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, technicians, and project teams.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and applicable vendor-specific software.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.

  • Must have good color vision, hearing, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs, kneel, bend, crawl, and crouch as required.

  • Ability to lift and move up to 70 lbs.

  • Ability to work around noise, dust, chemicals, electrical/mechanical hazards, and other field conditions.

  • Ability to operate standard testing and office equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises, trains, and provides direction and technical support to Fiber Characterization Technicians, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project and customer standards.
