Job description

Job Title: Operations Manager - Events

Department: Operations

Reports To: Director of Event Operations

Supervises: Dock Conveyance Coordinator

FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt

Compensation: Compensation is dependent on experience and ranges from $83,000 - $90,000

General Summary:

The Operations Manager - Events is responsible for the supervision of all event operational facets of the Colorado Convention Center including oversight of the building event activities, equipment and assisting department managers within Event Operations. Assist with scheduling, managing assets, inventory, budget tracking and capital equipment plans. Assisting Director of Event Operations in all planning and implementation of building projects and working closely with Facility Operations to ensure that all projects occur while minimizing impact on events. The Operations Manager - Events is also responsible for the supervision, scheduling and coordination of Dock and Conveyance personnel and any associated budgets.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Operations support at pre-cons, post-cons and provide event support as Manager on duty

  • Manage floor plan submittal and approval process as well as monitoring requests for hazardous materials, hazers, flammables, pyro, vehicles, etc.

  • Participate in and oversee, update and maintain the MOD program and assignments, event calendar and contractor requests

  • Review event floor plans for compliance with building policies.

  • Review General Service and A/V Contractor production schedules and to coordinate facility projects and needs.

  • Review event documents, Momentus software/reports and emails and recommend solutions to issues/challenges identified

  • By direction, assist in reviews and implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance, project management and coordination, contract negotiations and administration.

  • Oversee public safety DAS systems including two-way radio inventory - coordinate with city entities to maintain and keep system code compliant.

  • Oversee Dock and Conveyance Department staff; Review and coordinate work and staffing plans to support event needs.

  • Schedule Full time/On-call (temporary) Dock and Convenance personnel

  • Complete and maintain timely payroll/detail sheets for accounting. Document and track attendance to complete timely job time sheets for accounting

  • Complete evaluations for all Dock and Conveyance staff and implement appropriate corrective disciplinary action when necessary

  • Track and maintain documentation/compliance of radioactive device inventory per state requirements.

  • Assist in providing operational oversight for the CCC's food and beverage partner operations and recommend solutions to issues identified.

  • Recommend goals/objectives for Managers within Event Operations and assist with staff trainings and development of Event Operations policies and procedures.

  • Submit recommendations for operating, capital improvement and capital equipment budgets; track budget expenditures for events in compliance with operational goals

  • Track Event Operations purchasing, budgets, assets and use, replacement, and maintenance.

  • Assist in budget review and tracking regular capital/major equipment inventories.

  • By direction coordinate Event Operations staff training.

  • Responsible for submitting all hazardous material inventory and maintaining records to ensure compliance with city fire code.

  • Responsible for scheduling, maintaining and tracking all annual building DFD inspections, including coordinating any required work to correct deficiencies around events.

  • Oversee Event Operations in absence of the Director of Event Operations.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • B.A. degree in area applicable to facility management, resource management, or the convention/entertainment industries preferred.

  • AUTO CAD experience is a plus

  • Six to eight years' experience in facility management or event operations.

  • Industry experience preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to speak, understand, and read standard English, required

  • Ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends and holidays when needed.

  • Knowledge of equipment and code requirements to evaluate floor plans, required

  • Knowledge of building equipment operation and event production.

  • Basic knowledge of assembly and building fire codes.

  • Computer literacy in word-processing and spread sheet programs

  • Ability to read /understand 1 line/construction drawings.

  • Work effectively with diverse groups of people among all levels within an organization

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Ability to work independently; with minimal supervision

  • Perform leadership role and job tasks effectively despite sudden deadlines and changing priorities

  • Demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written) and inter-personal skills among all levels of staff and clientele

Computer Skills:

  • Sufficient computer skills including the ability to create word documents and excel spreadsheets to maintain inventory and other departmental related tracking.
