Job Summary (including but not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned)
Directs overall management of the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) project and is fully responsible for BESS engineering and technology. Lead BESS team efforts to support the construction, operation and maintenance planning, and supporting project development. 


This position will be involved in day-to-day operations; such as budgets, schedules, and making sure performance standards are set, maintained and achieved. This includes project conceptualization, management of design engineering, development fatal flaw analysis, equipment and vendor selection analysis, vendor and EPC negotiation and management, support construction management, and operations and maintenance planning and analysis. 


In this role, it is imperative to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team involved in all stages of project development and commercialization. Maintains the efficiency of important aspects of the Battery Energy Storage Systems project management process such as planning, scheduling, and budget and risk assessment. Defines and develops the BESS project management best practices, processes, and policy to ensure alignment with corporate strategy and goals. Partners with multi-departmental leadership and other stakeholders to locate opportunities and develop and prioritize projects according to relevant measurement criteria. Responsible for the supervision of others to ensure that all projects are delivered within the defined scope, quality, time and cost requirements.


Job Responsibilities
- Development Engineering:
o Responsible for leading conceptual designs and layouts for development projects currently in the pipeline as well as new green field developments.
o Responsible for leading technical analysis, internal and external, for different feasibility studies and project assessment during the development phase.
o Collaborate and give technical support in matters related to the connection to the grid and regulation capabilities of the storage.
o Manage the engineering team to ensure compliance with local regulations while optimizing the project design in efficiency and performance.
o Responsible for lead the technical and techno-commercial development activities to support Development to assure timely and cost-effective resolution to regulatory, permitting and technical issues associated with the execution and delivery of BESS projects.
o Collaborates with the Development team in the preparation and coordination of proposals, proposal materials, and other marketing efforts in support of the market segment. This may include gathering, verifying, and formatting proposal information.

- Technology:
o Establish and lead the relationships with BESS vendors and coordinate with their technical personnel to stay up to date with technology trends and products specifications
o Actively engage in industry standards committees such as NFPA, IEEE, etc. to be on the forefront of industry standards and specifications
o Understand the various battery technologies and industry practices to provide guidance to the organization on the application of technology. Educate the procurement, engineering, and operations teams on latest industry technology.
o Evaluate available and emerging storage technologies and communicate new technology development and risks associated with the new technology.


- Project Tenders:
o Lead the development of technical specifications for the procurement, RFI/RFP/RFQ process, of ES systems, subcontractors, and support services.
o Responsible for leading the development of key contracting strategies, terms, and implementation of energy storage systems
o Responsible for overseeing the team to review technical aspects of OEMs and EPCs proposals pertaining to energy storage during the selection with a tabulation of the received bids in order to ensure the selection of the best offer from the engineering point of view.


- Engineering and Standards:
o Lead the team to establish and maintain the engineering, design criteria and applicable standards and specifications for BESS projects.
o Responsible for the development, review and technical oversight of engineering requirements and design of energy storage projects.
o Review/approve the work of consultants used on BESS projects to ensure consistent and cost-effective designs and timely delivery.
o Responsible for ensuring the highest level of environmental health and safety in all engineering and design aspects of energy storage projects.
o Lead the value-engineering approach when designing energy storage systems in multiple project-specific use cases.


- Others:
o Provide technical support in evaluating potential M&A efforts for additional ES projects.
o Provide support to construction team in relation to ES technology implementation.
o Support construction team in developing and enhancing installation and commissioning procedures.
o Support the O&M team in developing work procedures and best practices to optimize the operation of the ES systems.
o Provide cross-organization training on ES technologies. 


Job Requirements
o 10+ years of experience in the renewable industry
o Bachelors Degree Required; Preferred Engineering, Masters or PhD.
o Grid connected BESS or any inverter-based generation experience
o Working experience in AutoCad and other CAD software to produce conceptual layouts
o Knowledge of the National Electric Code, NFPA and UL standards
o Proven experience in design and delivery of grid scale bulk energy storage technology solutions.
o Proficient knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite high proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint required
o Strong technical, analytical, quantitative, strategic, and management skills
o Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
o Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
o Ability to work productively with limited supervision
o Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task
o Strong interest in renewable energy and utility business
o Business acumen and demonstrated strong project management skills
o Ability and willingness to travel


Preferred Skills:
o Strong understanding of control systems, SCADA, HMI, EMS, and networking protocols
o Strong understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC and fire protection systems needed in the ES systems.
o Experience performing power systems analysis in software packages such as PSS/E, ETAP or PSCAD is a plus
o Knowledge of engineering and market economics and design optimization
o Wind and/or Solar system installation or design experience is a plus
o Professional Engineer (PE) registration 


Salary Information
o    Range - $172,739 to $220,243 / yearly
