Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior EHR Specialist is responsible for overseeing the configuration, optimization, and ongoing enhancement of CCI’s eClinicalWorks (eCW) electronic health record system. Building upon 5+ years of advanced experience as a Senior EHR Specialist, this role provides technical leadership, drives workflow innovation, ensures data integrity, and supports clinical and operational teams in achieving high‑quality, efficient patient care through effective use of the eCW.


KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

System Leadership & Administration

  • Serve as CCI senior eCW SME across clinical, billing, population health, and reporting modules.
  • Oversee system configuration, customization, templates, order sets, smart tools, and clinical workflows.
  • Lead the implementation of system upgrades, patches, and new feature rollouts.
  • Provide input to the Change Management Committee and other teams as needed.
  • Make recommendations on appropriate equipment utilized for the EHR function.

Workflow Optimization & Clinical Support

  • Delivery of patient care using the eClinicalWorks (eCW) electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Partner with providers, nurses, medical assistants, care coordinators, and operational leaders to analyze workflows and implement improvements.
  • Actively engage in eCW optimization for more efficient clinical workflows and perform various clinical technology-related duties as needed.
  • Lead optimization initiatives focused on clinical quality, documentation improvement, and care management.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.

Project Management

  • Lead cross‑functional eCW projects from inception through execution.
  • Coordinate with IT, population health, billing, and quality teams.
  • Maintain project documentation, timelines, and communications.
  • Implementation of system upgrades, improved functionality, training, and standardized workflows as approved. Including, planning and managing installations and/or updates and/or upgrades of the eCW (EHR-EMR) system.

Data Quality, Reporting & Compliance

  • Interpret governmental healthcare policies, regulations, and program/certification-specific language (e.g.: HIPAA, MIPS, PCMH), and then propose organization-wide workflow changes in the EHR to meet those specifications.
  • Partner with Reporting/BI teams to validate data extracts and metric definitions.
  • Ensure eCW configuration to support UDS, HEDIS, PCMH, and other quality programs.
  • Monitor data integrity and ensure compliance with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.

Training & User Support

  • Develop training materials, workflows, and SOPs.
  • Receive and respond to technical requests, emails, and other electronic inquiries from Clinicians.
  • Research, interpret, explain, and apply information from training materials to practice users including processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide tier‑2/3 support for escalated EHR issues.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor junior and mid‑level eCW Specialists.
  • Lead collaborative workgroups and represent eCW in committees.
  • Support vendor communication and long‑term system strategy.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years experience as in a Senior EHR Specialist role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare information management, healthcare informatics, or equivalent experience in a related field required.
  • Certified in the eClinicalWorks (eCW) platform is preferred.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), a plus.
  • Experience with healthcare operational workflow.
  • Experience with training and implementation of EHRs.
  • Ability to problem-solve hardware and software issues, and design forms and reports.
  • Familiar with ICD and CPT coding.
  • Knowledge of the clinical information systems as they relate to both clinicians and non-clinical staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
