Job description

Trap’s Construction is a well-established civil construction contractor specializing in site development, underground utilities, concrete, and asphalt projects. With a proven track record of delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget, we are committed to safety, precision, and excellence in every aspect of our work. We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Estimator – Project Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will share our passion for excellence, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and play a key role in supporting the success of our expanding project portfolio.

Position Overview

The Civil Estimator – Project Manager is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for public and private sector projects, including civil, utility, concrete, and asphalt work. This position requires advanced technical knowledge, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret complex plans and specifications. The Estimator will work closely with customers, project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure accurate and competitive bids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and addenda to determine scope of work.
  • Perform comprehensive quantity take-offs for site work, utilities, concrete, and asphalt scopes.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals in alignment with project requirements.
  • Analyze potential risks, value engineering options, and constructability issues.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as necessary.
  • Collaborate with management and field teams to support bid strategy and project execution.
  • Review & Maintain Daily Field Production Reports to monitor progress to process Pay Applications for Clients.
  • Prepare bid proposals professionally, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct and document regular follow-ups on outstanding proposals.
  • Business development for finding new projects to bid and avenues of opportunity to expand the company’s services.
  • Engage in networking events to assist in relationship building and represent and promote Trap’s Construction in a professional manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
  • Minimum of 8 years of proven estimating experience in civil construction, with direct exposure to utilities, concrete, and asphalt projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for document management and collaboration.
  • Strong negotiation skills to effectively manage contracts and pricing discussions.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Agtek, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and cost control to improve estimating efficiency.

· Exceptional attention to detail with advanced mathematical, analytical skills and computer skills to perform calculations and utilize software tools effectively in project analysis and estimation.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate tasks across various teams while meeting deadlines.
